Hi Vaibhav
Your session was really refreshing and eye-opener.Every time I see your work, Its feels like all this is happening around me. I can relate myself to the situation.
In between you said that as a student we enjoy the liberty of expression & creativity. And we can continue to enjoy same as professional also but we have to take more responsibilities.
These words boost me to do what I want to do, ultimately. But please enlighten.. me on this as its not visible to me.
I want to see & work for Indian TV episodes. But when we talk about Indian content its always taken as Movies only. Nobody seems to be interested in quality episodes.
May be I'm not fully aware about Animation Industry but quality Indian episodes are not visible to me.
I doubt if I'm making sense but it'll be good to listen from you.
hi bhaumik,
sorry for the late response.
i dont think theres a percentage to this. obviously your main strength should be showcased first whether its modeling or vfx or whatever. the additional interests/ knowledge that you possess can follow. basically your best work first!
v
hi abhijeet,
call up and we can fix a time to meet. meanwhile the TASI stop motion workshop has been post poned to March.
v
hi kiwa,
the future of animation totally depends on the quality of work you are doing NOW. every medium is equally potent. it all depends on what you do with it.
for 2d animation, i guess you should first get a good hold of the fundamentals of movement. you also need to be very profuse with your sketching.
all the best,
v
HI Shweta,
hope all's well at your end.
there are loads of different brands apart from Kores now. i dont remember the names but there are good Chinese and Thai brands. just ask for clay/ plasticine that never hardens, never dries. see you soon.
v
hi kasana,
i guess our industry spends most of its time catering to outsourced projects and servicing foreign clients. Unfortunately these projects do not allow us to involve ourselves in all the deptartments of film making.
however on the positive side there are immense opportunities in animation within India. There's a huge demand for content from telechannels, advertising, etc. Its a good platform to create films, tell your stories and have your work seen by the masses.
Tele series are a different ball game. To begin with, its loads of content to create. Most Indian producers have so far sacrificed quality to fit into the tight demands of time and money but i am sure it can only get better.
I feel you need to spend time in this sector to understand it and enjoy it.
All the best,
v

hi hands on,
of course you can hit the industry with with specialised skills. what matters is your expertise in the field.
You are a student. Explore all departments and see what you like the most. Just follow what you like doing. That way you will excel in it.
all the best!

hello sir iam prapul iam about to start my carrier in animation,i would like to take 3dmodeling /char.animation so is it essential to practice more on sketching and 2d animation to be perfect in 3d modeling.plzz do reply sir
hi mrinal,
i really liked the way you have used the clay props in your film. though simple, it gives a very refreshing feel to the film.
i have a doubt on the story front: have you used the child's voice to show that a third person is suffering?
Keep expressing your ideas. keep making films! All the best!
v
Hi Prapul,
The knowledge of the fundamentals of movement is key to animation and i believe that the hand drawn method is the fastest and most effective way to learn it. When you physically sketch or draw from life, your brain (and not the computer) does all the work. As a result the brain learns to observe and absorb better. Once the knowledge is in your head, you can use any digital tool to express it much better.
All the best!
v
great fan of yours, can u tell me how one can use different shads and tints in clay color for animation ? as there are very few colors available in market. and which clay do you prefer to work which is easily available in India ?
thank you
hi jimmy,
you can mix two colours to get a new one. the clay is oil based so can just knead two colours with your hand and they will mix beautifully.
there are lot of brands available: chinese/ thai etc. ask for clay that never dries, never hardens. its also called plasticine.
By the way we are doing a model animation workshop for TASI on the 22nd march. Its a full day event where audience will also be provided materials to make their own armatures/ puppets. To begin with we are keeping a limited audience. So those interested should try and make it.
hi vaibhav,
Thanks a million for such a fast reply
