Hi all...i have been looking to start a thread consisting 3d sketches i have been doing lately. These will be more of a work in progress, 3d doodles or finished models...few techniques of how i do them, maybe some tutorials while i go at it. Everyone's comments are most welcome...will try my best to sneak out time after work to keep this thread alive!

Inspired from Gears of War and one of Carlos Huante's concept...
Base mesh in maya and digital sculpting in Mudbox...3 days from start to finish.

thanks for viewing...

hey guys...glad you dropped in!!

rajeshsince1984: 3d sketck is nothing different than a term to describe incomplete/complete 3d models. just like you have in 2d sketckes. it doesnt necessarily have to be finished models. just few doodles i practise in my free time

incrediblepoo: I love fairy tales and in my childhood always played with cute barbie dolls...still DO!! eheh   maybe that's wy im so bored of them??!!

thanks blackocean, samar vijay and everyone for encouraging replies!

here's a torso sketch i sculpted last night when i was listening to my fav music...
i am not intending these doodles to be anywhere near to perfect, so please bear with me.

process of how i sculpted it from one pass to another. as they say "IT ALL STARTS WITH A CUBE LOL"

Going strong as usual Harsh...

the torso is really good.. so is the GOW character... only thing I feel is that the pants lack to give the feel that they should give out... as they are no creases (stitching ones) and also in the area where its goin into the shoe its flat.. u can give some 'tucked in' look with some cloth falling down...

..

The teeths are of same size some variation can really add to the character... I am sure u might hav already had these points in ur mind.. guess u were in a bit of hurry to finish the model

thnx for comments Rao_B and Smooth_Criminal
Smooth_Criminal yeah ur right bout the teeths...i kinda rushed just havin in mind this is a rough practise...but not a good idea!
his pants r not leather or loose cloth so didnt really wanted to make it fall that much on boots like u mentioned. Its intended to be Lycra/Spandex kinda tight suit. But yes crease shud be there...thnx for comments

Updated the teeths in second image above...cheers.

Yup!! teeths are looking really good now man...

I guess my Point of view of pants was mostly diverted towards leather or falling cloth material and didnt thought abut lycra or a tighter body fitting cloth...

Cheers mate.. looking foward to more doodles.

Hey guys...its been a while. Didn't really got time for personal works much. But yeah i sneaked some time to post a video tutorial on a character face i did some time ago. Beast from XMen3. I captured the screen while i was sculpting it in ZBrush2, and this is a Timelapse videos of the process of how i took a base head i already had modeled in Maya.

This briefly shows the process of how i start with a lowpoly head and change its form and shape according to the concept. Then i further subdivide the head, and work on next level of details. Never jump into higher detail, till i am satisfied with the form/structure of facial muscles. Then as i go further, i subdivide it more and get into skin detailing. This will server you guys as more of a Digital Sculpting tutorial, rather than any technical help. Hope you guys enjoy this, make full use of it and post your comments and suggestions.
These will be my second Series of Video Tutorials after i did Male Torso videos, which hopefully you enjoyed.

So there are 2 videos in format of WMV and are compressed already in zip. I'm temporarily uploading these on Megaupload so hope this works.
Link to Videos...

*EDIT* Thanks to www.asifaindia.com for providing us webspace/bandwidth.

Video 1 - Roughing out the base mesh and working on the form and structure.
VIDEO1

Video 2 - Detailing out the head, getting into facial muscles and finer details of Skin (like pores and wrinkles). Using projection master.
VIDEO2

Here is the final image , hairs are done in 3dsmax Shave n Cut + Photoshop touchups!

and a screenshot from Zbrush2

will post some more stuff soon...hope this is useful!
If you guys have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

Cheers
Harsh.

thanks guys for participating in this thread (a bit slower one tho)
seaser: yes you can post your 3d quickies and roughies in here. Its not just for me, but everyone who wants to share theirs works and being commented on. So keep posting your stuff...
about your dino..i would say you need to work a lot on forms and structure.

hells angel: thanks for posting that man...looks really good! the subtle folds of skin gives the feel of structure underneath. Just one suggestion...for the folds above his eyes, you can pinch in between them so that they dont look like brush strokes but like actual skin creases.(if that's what ur intending to)
so ur already getting good hands on muddy eh'

keep posting guys...i've got some more unfinished models that i will be posting soon...so keep'em coming...!

and here's something i spend few hours last night. Just a basic rough out of a face i'm doing from Preacher comics. Will do another muscle/tendon pass next. Spent like 2-3 hrs.

harsh: thanks for the crit dude....i wasnt intending for them to be creases....and this was anyways kinda quick to just check out the tools so i wasnt really focussing on what i wanted.....(i really didnt know what i was shooting for!!:P)....hoping to put up some more.....ur latest looks promising...the eyebrow looks kinda wierd though....maybe its the frown and the bulge on the eyebrow near the outer eyelids.....waiting for updates!
sriram: I was really looking forward to seeing ur updates on the dinotaur but a lot of image hosting sites are blocked at work so i cant see any of ur images....is there a site or an alternate link that i can see ur stuff at?
