Animation creates its niche in Hollywood, Bollywood and Ad-world
Ghajini and The Night at the Museum sweeps awards at the 6th Annual 24 FPS Awards 2009 by MAAC
November 7, 2009: The 6th Annual 24 FPS Awards 2009, India’s premier Animation awards organized by Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematic (MAAC) held on Friday evening saw the best of animation and visual effects works done by Hollywood, Bollywood and the ad-world.
24 FPS, an established platform to recognize and reward the animation and visual effects artwork saw nominations not only from domestic studios and young animators but also attracted an incredible participation from countries like China and Canada too.
Ghajini created by FX Labs bagged the Best Game Design Awards along with Indian Games for
Moving Maze. Rhythm & Hues won the Best Visual Effects Feature Film for
Night in the Museum 2.
Pehchaan Kaun, the movie by MAAC Delhi team bagged The Best Animated Film (GOLD), the most coveted award of the year.
This year 24 FPS Awards had introduced 3 new categories viz The Viewer’s Choice Award, Outstanding Contribution to Indian Animation Education Industry and The Best Game Design.
Sanjiv Waeerkar, Chief Creative Officer, MAAC on this occasion expressed enthusiastically, "24 FPS Animation Awards has raised the bar yet again with more than 800 participants not just from India but from international as well. Looking at the response received all these years, this year we have introduced the Viewer’s Choice Awards where audiences could select the best of the entries nominated. The Indian animation industry is growing in heaps and bounds and keeping in mind this fact we have also introduced two other categories; the Best Game Design and Outstanding Contribution to Indian Animation Education Industry which will catapult the gamut to a different level all together."
The prestigious
Movers ‘n’ Shakers Award was given to Data Quest while Rhythm & Hues won the award for
Outstanding Contribution to Indian Animation Education Industry.
The event was graced by the presence of veteran film director Ketan Mehta. The evening not just saw the who’s who of the animation industry but was further adorned by stage performances by glamorous actress Kim Sharma, singer Mansi Scott who was also the host for the evening and renowned comedian VIP (of Comedy Circus’ fame).
The jury panel comprised of Mr. Kireet Khurana of 2NZ, Mr. Merzin Tavaria from Prime Focus, Ms. Shelley Page from DreamWorks Animation,
Mr. Nilesh Sardesai from Prana and Mr. Krishnakant Mishra of Sony Imageworks.
From more than 200 film entries across India for 21 different award categories in 2009, 24FPS Awards 2009 had a whopping response. The films were judged along the parameters encompassing several aspects of animation film production such as Story and Concept, Animation, Modeling, texturing, Lighting, Visual Effects to name a few.
