Default Triangles to Quads

Okay. Hello everyone.

My name is Priyesh and I m a rigger(still in making). Now to the problem :-

I have downloaded some models to rig them for my showreel. Although It comes to me as a problem tht most of them are not quad mesh but in triangles. Would any one 1 suggest me the idea how to convert a triangular mesh into quadraleteral mesh? Really needs some help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Priyesh,
There is no such precise way to convert tri's to quad..the only best way is to tweak it......There are some free models on 3dtotal and on cgsociety as well you can try that....
Its an advantage for a rigger if he knows a bit of modelling and animating.....it can always help you to built good rigs.....
Hope that helps
Cheers

Thanks for the reply genetic.

Though I can tweak it but it wuld be very long process. After googling I found some script in max called quadrangulate which can convert tris into quads but now I m having a hard time using it because I never used a script in max before.... Thanks for links.

Hi Priyesh,
I think these is a good script..u can use it but u will have to tweak the mesh even after using the script............definately will reduce ur tweaking load....
Here is the way u can use the script.............Copy the script and paste it into "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2010\Scripts\Startup" then restart 3ds max....as in Picture 1 u can see a popout that shows how to use script...click Ok on that and after that.....click on "Customize User Interface" under Customize in the menuBar...these will pop a window as shown in image 2..after that go into toolbars tab and find quadrangulate and drag that to the tool bar....it will create a button as shown in image 3........now select the mesh that u want to quadrangulate and click on that button as shown in image 4...
Sorry I might be bad at explaining.....
Hope that helps
Cheers
