TASI Viewers' Choice Awards (TVCA)
Anifest India 2009 awaits us, 3 days of jam packed sessions from speakers from across India. A perfect blend of knowledge, fun and an opportunity to interact with the who's who of the Animation, Visual Effects and the Gaming Industry. Another feather in the cap is the TASI Viewers' Choice Awards (TVCA) which is a treat of quality films from across the globe, where we become the jury and get to choose what is best.
We are all excited to watch quality films from all across the globe and be the judge of the best, I cant wait !
TVCA has been growing in scale and reach every year. This year with more than 370 entries the Pre Selection jury had a hard time selecting the best for us, an opportunity to showcase your talent and get recognized for it. We spoke to Vaibhav Kumaresh and Ranjit Singh who tell us about the essence of TVCA and the growing success every year.
Vaibhav Kumaresh talks about TVCA !
Its an absolute high for any filmmaker for his/ her films to be watched and appreciated by his/ her audience. Its no doubt a great honour and happiness to receive an award judged by eminent industry stalwarts, but to see a mass audience applaud your film is different thrill! The TASI Viewers Choice Awards were conceived purely to give our film makers this divine experience! In most of the animation festivals, we see the film makers walk up and down the stage with awards! However we rarely get to see their films!! TVCA is a unique platform, where the audience gets to see not just the nominated films, but the entire cream of the past one year's animation films across all categories.
Another big success for the TVC Awards according to me is the growing number of industry supporters that have contributed to the awards kitty. From high end workstations, software licenses, graphic cards, digital tablets, hardware to cash awards, the kitty just keeps growing every year! As a result the TVCA is today the most valuable and most useful award in India for any animation filmmaker.
Ranjit Singh talks about TVCA !
TASI Viewers' Choice awards are an extension of the philosophy of the festival - for the animators, by the animators. While industry experts and juries may judge films based on a professional viewpoint, an audience award is a more elaborate and rounded opinion about what masses like to see and enjoy. To that effect, it is a good indicator of the market sentiment about films, stories, presentation -i.e. the entire package. With these awards we are enabling animation film makers across various genres to bring their creativity to the masses and also hoping to encourage more people to make films, that all of us enjoy watching.
The success of TVCA is quite evident from the growing response. In the first year we received some 100+ entries and there were very few international films in there. This year we have nearly 370+ films and a large number of them are international submissions. The quality of Indian films that are being submitted, over the years has really improved. We are very pleased to see that along with Indian institutes and schools, we also have a huge number of foreign schools that have sent in their student films. This year is definitely going to be an eye opener and reality check for a lot of people. We are thrilled that the international community has warmed up to Anifest India. This is a good sign as we are able to showcase a lot of good quality international films in India. In reciprocation, every year we send out a compilation of the Anifest India collection to events across the world. And such exchanges help a lot to encourage and inspire film makers to do good work.
