Question Starting up a studio

Hi folks,
I am Vineet and I am currently in my 3rd year at Birla Institute of technology and Science in Pilani,Rajasthan. I am a big CG enthusiast and we are coming up with an idea to start an animation studio. But we want to get an edge by fusing technology with art and secondly I am not satisfied with training imparted in Indian Art Schools. Plus no technical insight is given into the software. Say like Maya Embedded Language(MEL). I want to train these people so they have a better workflow with these softwares and the end product comes out better. I personally know OpenGL and MEL by research.Please suggest something.....

Hi Vineet, this is Manie Bhatia.I am really quite excited to know about your fantastic idea of opening an animation studio (& not institute).Currently I am working in a Mumbai based production company "BEYOND ILLUSION" as a Visual Effects(VFX) Supervisor & production pipeline manager. I am also a B.E graduate in Computer Science from university of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Mostly I work on Maya with intense use of MEL.I am into CG industry from last 3 years now I also dream of opening a studio in Rajasthan which would be the combination of art & technology. As you already know that here in India the scene is quite different from abroad. Here people are not technically that sound coz most of the artists are from art background & there are no prerequisites for joining the industry. You can easily be in the industry by doing a part time 3 months course from any institute & that’s the most annoying thing for a cg enthusiast. Now days, there's a institute in every other lane which are raining so called CG artists resulting in lack of jobs, poor packages & bad quality. Institute just doesn’t even bother to teach the technicalities of the software.
So I really appreciate the idea of a studio which is owned by some technical people.
So if you have any kind of query regarding this, you can call me anytime. I will put my best to help you out as you can consider me also in your team.

Thank you.
Regards,
Manie Bhatia.

@Manie: Thanks for the encouraging advice. I would like to know about the kind of modules designed in MEL and their applications. Do you design plug ins for use by Indian studios and is there a reasonable market demand for technical boost in current scenario,though I strongly feel there's a desperate need for quality enhancement.Feel free to mail me at vineet.markan[AT]gmail[dot]com

@Ashil: I am not currently looking for artist recruitment; rather I am researching on the technical factor.

hi vineet. my pleasure..ya i hv made lots of small plug-ins but there's no as such market demand for that as the industry don't know about the value of technical aspect of this..there are hardly 40-50 technical guys in the industry. There's lot of need of technical guys but nobody takes it seriously..i am keen to know that how much you know maya & MEL & wat are future your plans?
mail me at : manie_in@yahoo.com

thanks.

@Manie: I posted a reply on your mail ....
Could you tell me exactly what is it that is holding back the quality of indian visual effects and how is industry going about to fix it??
Also are their any animation schools in India who offer exhaustive graphical coding training??

hi Vineet. as i already told you that no school is paying attention to the technical (coding \ programming) part of the s/w.they just teach you which button to press to create a cube but wat is the process going behind that will remain a mystery. Indian animation is lacking quality coz producers dont want to put money on these "CARTOON" movies. here, a bunch of 25-30 artists produce a full length 90 min movie in 1.5 years. In hollywood, it takes 250-300 artist & 3-4 years. Lack of pre production & planning, lack of knowledge about the s\w used are the main reasons.

Manie,I guess you couldn't reply to my mail. As I mentioned we are analyzing the animation market and we would really like to know how much budget is allocated for development or up gradation of prevalent softwares in big Indian Studios and also do you think a centralized service providing hub hub of animation software developers would be welcomed?
