Need of a Lighting Contest

hi guys in these days every one is busy in modeling challenge or scupting or texturing , matte painting ,animation or compositing challenge guys we want lighting challenge, only only lighting challenge there is not a platform for only who r mad about lighting , pls giving your views here for lighting challenge so the one of tantriks or senior membor will organise it post your views here ......

hey bro.......... we already participate there ......................
but we need a compitation here bro.....
because this site is not a community now it,s part of my passion i love to watching works here because i know most of the members here ...they r so friendly ....
and every one is busy in modeling texturing animation but there is not of any compitation for lighting sooo we really need it to learn more and know each other..

about the image sorry but that is not my work it,s a image that is taken by Google image search page for the fell of the threat.....

I have also participated in that challenge but agree with you cgtantra is really a very friendly place where we know almost all people.
I participated in that coz I want to improve my lighting skills as Im not so good in it so hope to meet u there also.

CGTantra is no doubt great but If you also participate in CGSociety lighting challange then you get International Exposure where you can compete with the artist from all over the world. And get there feedback.
But yes I would be great to have a Lighting competition in CGTantra tooo.

That's really right i think that in 3d everything has equal part means Moddelling=Texturing=Lighting=Compositing etc. So their should be something for lighting

Yep DG...apart of modeling, texturin, animation other part also be there...Lighting, Rigging, Rendering, Dynamic also we should do some challenge for special effects and composting too....
There are lots of artist who doesn't work with modeling or animation in other words here now challenges are only for modeler, animator and painter..not for other artist who's involve with lighting, rigging, dynamic, composting, special effects...etc..even we should have one nice sound effect challenges too because sound is very very important in any film or video...

I hope Administrator ppl will read our text n may be will arrange things according that.

Good to see your passion towards lighting! But, the thing is, CGTantra is currently running so many Challenges, namely : the monthly "CGTantra Digital Matte Painting Challenges", the quarterly "ARTT War - Battle of the Schools" team challenges, the "Monthly Modeling/Sculpting Contests" and also the "Monthly Animation Sessions"; which has opened-up, so many options in front of the CGTantra members to choose from, in which contest they wish to participate and hoon their skills! The Administrators of CGTantra and the Moderators are trying their level best, to conduct & organize the Challenges, which are to the interest of the CGTantra members, and are even conducting these Challenges on a monthly & quarterly basis, for the continual benefit of the members! But, truly speaking, it's not always possible to conduct Challenges, on every department, in the field of Animation, Visual Effects & Gaming, at the same time! See, you are requesting for a challenge in lighting, while Jatin is requesting for challenges on : lighting, rigging, dynamic, composting, special effects and even for sound effect challenges; does not that seem, too much of a request? If suppose, we create a lighting challenge, within a few months of it's commencement, another member, just like you, will show us the example that, there are so many contests going on currently, on Digital Matte-Painting, ARTT War, Lighting etc etc.... but, none on story-boarding; then, what will our action be? To start a story-boarding challenge?

Most importantly, lighting is a part of the judging process, in the Digital Matte Painting Challenges, so is for ARTT War Challenges! In fact, there are four major criteria for the Judges to look into a Matte-Painting entry, namely : Composition, Perspective, Lighting & Color. So, if you are so much interested in lighting, then why not participate in the two Challenges & show the Judges, your lighting skills! The Moderators of CGTantra are very busy with conducting the currently running Challenges on CGTantra, along with their professional work; so, it will take some time for us, to come-up with a challenge on lighting! Just conducting a challenge for the name-sake is not our mission; we strive to provide the contestants with quality judgement, from renowned Artists around the world and also, create a stable plan for organizing the Challenges! We'll definitely keep your request in mind, and will try to conduct a Challenge on lighting , when the right time comes!

PS: If CGTantra members are so desperate to see a challenge on lighting, to take place at CGTantra, they can pour-in their ideas & thoughts, about the plans of a future lighting challenge! If any CGTantra member (like, Diwanshu), can come-up with a strong idea & plan of a probable future challenge on lighting, we are ready to start the lighting challenges, provided the member is willing to take the task of organizing the Challenges; that is, he/she will have the chance to become the Moderator of the lighting challenges, which might also result in the non-participation in the challenges, as a contestant!

If you all are so much passionate about lighting & are interested in participating in a lighting challenge, just check-out the above link; CGSociety is conducting a series of lighting challenges! Jeremy Birn, the Lighting Artist, from the Pixar Animation Studios, is conducting the Challenges! It's a great opportunity for the enthusiastic members, to get a good practice on lighting & can improve their skills; participate there for the time-being, until we have a challenge on lighting, here at CGTantra! Which community it is, it does not really matter; the thing which matters the most is, the opportunity you get, and how you utilize it for your own benefit!

I guess, your long list of challenge requests, is too much for us to handle right now; it's very unlikely to have a challenge on sound effect! CGTantra will definitely conduct new challenges; but, it will take some time!

i feel its hard to get a lighting contest arranged,here in tantra.

Dont know the reason yet,but just a get a feeling maybe,none of the people running the show here,more inclined to it.

i kinda personally bored with the same modeling/animation thing going on,again and again for all these years.(Note:Max people running this forum are into Modeling/Animation)

yap agreed sir a very few people are intrested in other things ........
seems bad that mostly time the forms seems for only modeling and texturing or animation ......and there is none of any senior member that can took responsablity and conduct a lighting challenge....

happy to find a lighting challenge. i am very interested in lighting and dynamics in Maya. i am currently working as a maya instructor in chennai. i would like to get some tips and tricks in lighting in relation to particles, especially blobby surface particles. i can also my knowledge in particles and soft bodies. pl post ur doubts. i am 40 yrs old with good experience in teaching skills.

Yes here should be something for lighting that is must
for people like us who are mainly interested about lighting.

Diwanshu what can we do if the admin is not interested
for people like us.
