So here's what we want to see: Take an existing photo of a city skyline, from the ground or aerial, and transform that into a world where you think it would look like in the future. It should be full of life, and could be a metropolis, or changed to be integrated more into nature itself. A story into why and how the city has been transformed is highly recommended. Showing the plate before and after is required, and should be of the same dimensions (or at least used as the majority in the matte painting).
Attention to perspective, form and design will be good to remember in this assignment.
Size of the Matte Painting: Your final image has to be, a minimum of 1300 x 700 px in size. The resolution must be 300 dpi. But, for your WIP images, you can submit images smaller than the above specified size.
Note: On July 19th, 2009, a Final Entry thread will be posted, where the contestants will be required to submit their finalmatte-paintings! It is MANDATORY for the contestants to post their final entries in this thread in order to be eligible for the judgement by the panel of honorable Judges!

NOTE: Since May month's Challenges, we are following the GMT (Standard Time), since, few members were having difficulty in following the deadline! For your convenience, a link to a site, showing the GMT is available here.
A word of caution: From June month's Challenges, we've decided to be more strict towards anyone who is found creating matte-paintings which are inspired and is found to be very similar to an existing matte-painting! Also, anyone using parts of previously created matte-paintings (both, from their own creations or matte-paintings created by other artists), and using them in their entries, is also cautioned! The matte-paintings need to be created exclusively for these Challenges, from the initial concept to the final matte-painting! Anyone, who is found breaking these words of caution, will be warned once, after which, he/she will be banned from the concerned month's Challenges!
NOTE: This month's Challenges will run from July 2nd, 2009 to July 26th, 2009! Due to some unavoidable circumstances, the Challenges are starting from July 2nd, 2009! The contestants will get their full 25 days to complete their matte-paintings!
Very challenging and awesome! Unfortunatelly, I won't be able to join, (for next couple more I think) as I will be quite busy with a few other work related tasks... I'll be watching these challenges though... so good luck to all! I'll try to put some comment when able

Is possible keep the dimension of city but expand around it?
Excellent topic !!! (with a excellent description of it !)
Unfortunatelly, it's hollydays time for me, and time for a lot of little works on the side. So I realy have no time this month, except for posting some intentions of wip, not more....

Hi DB-TUNING,

Yeah! You can either keep both, before and after, of the same dimensions, or can extend the final matte-painting, but, using the original plate as the majority in the final matte-painting!
