Too early to make a title for this one yet. I found a TON of great photos today to help with this one. I'm going to sketch some ideas this week based on those photos and see which one grabs my attention the most.
Here's my first thumbnail sketch. It's really convoluted at the moment but I have a good idea where it'll go and what detail i will add if I continue with this one.
Anyway, just a start. more to come! Gotta get back to some other projects for a bit. Back tomorrow!
Hi Gordon) I like this lighting - looks interesting! As for foreground maybe it'll be better to make a contrast softer a little bit. What do you think about it?
Here's tonight's photo sketch-over. quick and gross. tossed a few images of cities in there and very quickly drew on them (not well)
if i go with this one i'll do the whole city in 3d to get the shapes where i want them but for the moment i'm just tossing around another idea. i should have some direction by this weekend. i found 4 or 5 more photos today that got me pretty amped up so we'll see where they take me.
off to other projects for a few hours, back tomorrow!
Lol, love the phrase quick and gross...ha, ha ha...Lookin good so far man. I like this concept a bit more than the first. Not as contrasty and easier to read. Keep going bro, Nice work!
ok, sketch number 3. i haven't had much time to work on it but i'm already liking this one the most so far. i think it's got more potential and a better composition.
i'm going to try to make another one tomorrow... we'll see where it goes...
just after posting i realized there was a really cool spot of sunlight hitting the mountain that i accidentally covered up. i may post this again tomorrow with that fixed...

alright, i've decided i'm going with that last sketch.
since i'm going to model (at least roughly) all the buildings and castle i was going to need some topography so i figured i'd go ahead and set up elements for a camera move and projection/camera mapping while i was building that. (i'll still only be submitting a 2d version for the final )
here's the first draft, low detail version with some stand in shapes where the main castle towers. I'll add more detail and fix some of the paralaxing parts as i go. gotta do some tests first.
The image i found for my backplate is really low res so i'll be rebuilding most of it from scratch to match as closely as possible. i better get back to it...
