Default Few Confusions

Hi ,am Abhishek from lucknow.
I am opting for the animation field as my career and i have not much knowledge about the type of studies and the course thought.
I have some experience in working on Adobe AE,3d max, nothing else.
I want to know the basic difference in the course of game designing and 3d animation and to be specific what is difference in the major things taught in them.
I have shortlisted fullsail university, florida, for the studies and i am confused with the branch which i shud opt for i.e. 3d animation, game designing, game development.

Btw any full sail student around???????????

rahhhhh complitly wrong ....

It's a complitely different thing game design is about creating the structure of a game the pattern some peices of coding the rules and aim of the game whereas the animation is about creating short film and telling stories it has nothing to do with game design....

I'm teaching graphics in game design and animation in an institute right know and beleive me it's complitly different even if the software thing is true as per gaming you have tons of different software such as flash, illustrator, unreal engine, yeti and a lot of others...

Blows my minds out

Don't hesitate asking any question I'll be around

Hi Abhi,

Game and Animation both are bit different system, field or technical you can say. there are few things which you have to keep in mind while working on particular module in game or animation.

Difference between game and animation is as below

Game:

in game you have some limitation as going for real time you always be sure and concern about poly count and texture detail. you have to use as less as possible poly in your model but it should visually look detail model so for that you need to use few technical like low poly modeling with nice detail texture and normal map nice lighting etc. even you need to back texture some time need to back shadow lighting etc to increase your real time speed. for game we have to use any game engine and we have to work and model and animate things according that game engine. So I can say there is a pertinacious way or method to work for game. its challenging but very interesting part of 3d work. game also required animation..if you wanna walk your character or falling character or any kind of movement that time you need to do animation for your character or prop etc.. but you always have to concern about real time platform. Means on which platform your game going to play. Mobile, PC, PS or Xbox etc. each platform has own limitations. So we have to understand that limitations of platform as well as game engine too. In game designing you need to built entire levels according your story etc..

So in game designing you will learn more about gamming stuffs. What and how you should create stuffs according game engine and varies platform.

3d Animation:

In 3d animation you have no limits no foundation. As things will go for play back not real time we need to render it and it will become a video or any play back format this means that there is no limits of poly count or nothing. But in this more concern on quality and detail of work. Like if you are creating an animation for visual effects of any movie. That time your model, texturing, lighting, animation everything looks so detailed and as real as original footage where it’ll used. That time no worry how much your scene bcom heavy or else. In 3d animation you will more learn about how you can create more realistic, more cartoony or can say more detail stuffs. Which you can use for films, visual effects, cartoon films, commercial etc.. Which will gonna play back not real time as game.

So in 3d animation you will learn more about detail and high quality work techniques

But I don’t know in India is there any academy learn dedicatedly course according that. They mentioned all the time like Game designing, 3D animation, animation film making etc… so I would suggest first cross check with past student and visit on site personally with any sound technical experience artist.

I hope above texts could help you out for your question…best of luck..

Thanks for your tips on it my friend. I am also planning to get into this field but don't know where to start from? I have done my bachelors in computer application and I don't like coding so I wanted to ask you that if I want to learn Game desing or development how much coding will be involved in that? I heard that animation has less coding compare to game design or development.

And you also mentioned that there are so many softwares to learn which can blow up the mind of a professor himself, then what is your suggestion? Do I need to learn those all softwares or specialisation in couple of thme will do. A wise man said " If you want to be everything, you would be nothing at the end".

Please take few minutes out from your time and clear my doubts.

So well again it looks to me like your much more into graphics than into gaming. Creation of game asset can be a lot of fun also. Giving life to worlds only skteched by the words of a game designer can be pretty cool and a great challenge.

As per the software in the end it's always the same techinques so don't bother to much with that as soon as you understand how things work the software doesn't count that much and only the interface becomes a problem wich is resolve in a matter of weeks.

I'd say in game design there like 25% coding or so but it's not that compliquated in fact.It s just to set basic action and trigger.

What you reaaly nned to know is the place you want to take in the industryand don't aim for facility as it's going to be your life for a long time.

You need to figure out what gives you the most pleasure !inventing games or creating them.
