Prime Focus Exploiting Indian Workers?

Hello readers,

An interesting article on VFX Soldier. Makes me sad and angry at the same time. I have nothing personal against the studio as I have never worked there, however it is sad to see passionate artists being treated as bonded labourers.

I was actually thinking of working in Prime Focus but after reading this I will certainly have to reconsider.

I think this is a serious Issue !! I have come across the same post and its a disgrace Locally and internationally !! I hope this is a matter of serious concern ... and do request all respective Cgtantra senior gurus chip in and shed some light on the matter !

There are Students being targeted and exploited ! If Something has to be voiced, Do it when it matters !

I second that. I was going to ask the same question to the CG Tantra folks. You are certainly the biggest influence for the Animation & visual effects students in India. What is your take on this? CG Tantra's motto is "LEARN INSPIRE GROW". Will you help to take forward this cause and do what is necessary to stop the people exploited by these Unethical and Illegal Practices? These are the same people and the students that visit your forums everyday !

one of My friend had joined Prime focus.. He Was a Animator.. he had so bad Experience that he leaved prime Focus in 2 months ane Leaved Animation and Started to work on Arch viz. he told me that was a horrible experience as animator there. now i have no interest in doing animation... after working in this much big, reputed studio.

What to do guys if big/reputed studios are acting like this then how will this industry ever evolve(work environment wise). People hope that one day they will work with a reputed company but if such work culture is nurtured then very few will be interested in Animation.

Does anybody know about such situations with other studios ?

I know its very frustrating for artist when they don't get job anywhere and they sign on such agreements. But they need to ask question to themselves is your art is more important or big company name which can ruin you forever?

And We are Forgetting the main problem.... Salary issue..
people in so many studios don't Receive Salary on time..
Thanks to our company who do Slary on 1st of month and some time before 1st of month.
otherwise people like me living in mumbai from out State/city was F#%ked up..
People like me have to pay Rents on time....

one of My Friend got Selected in Trine Games. They Told him to Pay a Security Deposit of Rs 70,000. And they were paying him 15,000 PM.. and one of the artist of Trine Games Told us that there's Salary issue there....

Is that company even functional ?? Last I heard of them was a few years ago when they announced a cricket game. I've not heard of them since then.

Actually it was not a street cricket game. They had announced it a few years back and I guess they must've cancelled it.

I think the Idea of forming a union is coming up pretty fast ! I wish and hope that everyone can be a part of an union and stop all this rubbish by studios !

Yup! An artist union must be formed to stop these b*llsh*ts against us. These terms and condition will ultimately lead in exploiting us and being paid like a daily labour!

yes that's nice idea. so we can save artist. . . we have to do something....
and it's not only about PF. therr's many studio out there.and first think you can do is file a report to autodesk. coz many studios don't have license ...

Extremely sad.

These companies know for a fact that students/entry level workers are really desperate to work for the company cos its a well known company, so they exploit the situation as per their own needs.

They know that no matter what they put in the contract, there are people desperate enough to sign it.

We must share this information with as many students/freshers as possible so they are aware of this exploitation.
