Well, I have to agree with Annkur; both of them looks like a college of photos! You need to blend the different reference photos together in such a way that, they look to be a single photo-real image. As a beginner, you need to take part in as many contests as possible, to get critiques from both the Judges and the members of the CG community. In the second image especially, the edges of each picture are not blended at all and there are absolutely no color correction done! The main aim should always be to make it photo-real (like a photograph)! Also, you should never-ever use copyright images like you did with the river image in the second Matte-Painting; either use the images that you've shot yourself or always ask for permission from the owner of the image whether you can use their image or not!
