Looks like a good start. but need a lot more. in my opinion first try to animate a squashy bouncing ball jumping over the box with personality. with it you can definitely get the timing, spacing, what you have missed in this animation and what to add for appealing personality. then mimic the same animation with the character. for some of the character animations like jumping, swinging etc were based on the basics like bouncing ball, pendulum and multi jointed pendulum. think in this way and you will definitely do it right...
