Hello Sir,

I am Dileep from Kerala (South India) doing my 3rd year BTech in Computer Science.I have been passionate about Designing(especially 3D) and have been trying to learn 3Ds Max by myself.I have earned a little about Max the basics and a little more in rigging and pflow from various tutorial videos and from some of my brother's friends who are working at Rhythm and Hues and Reliance Studio.

I am so passionate that I have even started a firm with my friends for designing and branding (mostly websites).

Well,the reason of this letter is that,I will be completing my BTech by 2013 and I need to find a job,preferably as a Dynamics Artist.Am already on FumeFX and RayFire. But before that would you tell me some general information about studios?

Like Scope of FX artists,minimum requirements,studios that hire FX artists,plugins that I need to look into, then working hours,payscale etc?
Is it a necessary that I should get a certificate by doing some course in 3D or is it ok if my showreel is good enough.Like,after that studios might give some training or some sort of?

Please Help,so that I can decide on my career and work towards it.

Ofcourse I know you are busy,but We starters need advices from experts like you

hi Dileep,
Sorry i am visiting this forum after long. regarding your queries i may not be the best guy to guide you on vfx technically. All i can say is your visual sense/ aesthetics needs to be strong coz you would need to create photo real imagery.
Your reel is what matters when you seek a job not your paper qualification.

hiii, my name is anup deshmukh from thane, i have not just one question but many of them. i dont know if i am allowed to ask more than one question at a time, but i will give it a go. first of all let me give you a quick idea of what i am like, i am a bsc grad and a vfx lover. so i joined maac thane and completed ad3d course from there. now one thing in my mind was, what now. so i started looking for a job, i tried timesjob, naukri , monster and many others but still date i didnt find even a single job thru those sites. then i went to different studios in mumbai to submit my cv and reel but everyone said we dont take freshers. i tried applying online to many many animation studio sites in mumbai, but i didnt get a single reply. so my questions are, what should a fresher do to kick start his career? where to look for new opportunities? is the universe going to send a sign so that i can grab that opportunity? please help me get on track by pointing in the right direction f possible, i am desperate now to learn and earn .and i feel worthless sitting in the house, even my parents are tired of me.. Thank you

Hi Anup,
There could be couple of reasons:

> Your work is not up to the mark (most common reason). In this case you need to share your work with people and get feedback on where/ how to improve
> You are not applying at the right places or through the right channels. Its important to know what diff studios are working on so you ca share with them similar skills that you possess.
> Studios may not be hiring right now. There may not be a need for more people right now.

generic advise: learn the entire process. never narrow down to just one particular discipline. at least not at this early stage. you may have one core area of interest or expertise but develop your knowledge for other related topics as well. it will allow you to be a more useful asset to any studio.

When i was in college, we use to have stop animation classes and we got a stop animation assignment too.. It was 'Mangal Pandu' 'Ooga Booga' to whom we use to follow for reference because it was one of the best in their way. Hi,
I had problem with exporting narmal from zbrush to maya, the model is low poly only half model been modeled and unwraped then is mirrored, then the uv also mirrored, When i am exporting normal from zbursh, one side is coming good other side, looks overlaped, please tell me where i have done the mistake, I have tryed xnarmal also result would be sam, Please help me to refine them,

You are asking the wrong guy!! I am sorry but i am more ignorant than you are about what you are talking! Sculpt a wax/ clay idol of Vivek Ram or Siju Thomas and worship it for 3 days. You will get the answer and much more!!

I am a wanna be 3D character animator I have a question and fear as well floating in my mind from a long time, as a fresher what skills are required to get a job in a reputed studio here in India so one can at least survive in other town or city. Since I am from Shimla (H.P) and I've zero opportunities here in this place. I am a self learner, so I know I'll need to work even harder on developing my skills and I am working on it, but It's becoming hard for me to realize when I am ready for it.

I have Animated TV series proposal which will be India's first dark humor based Animated Sitcom; Targeting: Youth.
The Animated Sitcom has crazy plot lines, funny gags, celebrity appearance etc in comic manner.
