Why do I want to learn animation?
Big question!!!!
The answer is very small, 'I love them'.
I just don't want to grow up. Life and it's uncertainty are making me do many things which I don’t want to do. There are many things I love doing. Animation is one of them. There are many types of animation happening, three of them are used mainly in the industry, Cell, Stop-Motion and 3D. I want to do all three. Starting with 3D CG (computer graphics). For me 3D animation is like virtual puppetry. In real life we make puppets with tangible materials and use them as a medium of story telling. In CG also we do the same things but we do it virtually which eventually results in a motion picture.
Why MAX only?
Hundreds of 3D modeling and animation applications are prevailing in the market these days. Though it is a little tough, I chose to learn Max because it is probably one of the very first software developed for animation thus it has evolved to the best possible technology available currently. When a software is written there are many supporting software called plug-in are also developed side by side. These plugins are peripheral support systems which enhances the performance of the main machine. According to my study 3D studio max is one application for which maximum number pugins are created. Max file format is compatible with many other 3D applications. These are few main reasons for which I want to learn it.
Learning process
The available learning resources are indicating that there are 6 main stages of making a 3D animation.
Modeling > texturing > rigging> animating> Lighting and rendering. After these stages comes compositing which is done using different linier editing and special effect softwares.
Through modeling we create our characters and all surrounding and every thing which is needed for shooting the film.
Texturing is like giving materials to all the virtual characters and world around them.
Rigging is a process of giving a kind of bone structure to all the dynamic things which further become a framework for animation.
Animation gives life to the characters. Movements are given through animation.
Nothing can be seen in the absence of light. So we need virtual lights to light up our CG world. All lights here work very much like physical lights.
Finally we shoot the movie in form of image sequence through a virtual camera this process is called Rendering.
This was an introduction to the subject I am going to learn.
