Hello friends !!!!!! :)

I m a student in MAAC Indore, doing 3ds Max. I wann be a great modeler (character artist).

As my 3ds max is almost in completion here. After that I want to do Maya as well. A little thing to ask you - Is that necessary that I learn Maya the whole software, not only modelling but texturing, lighting, animation as well, coz I think if I will work for modelling in future, why should go for the whole software. I m already learning 3ds Max completely.

So the question is - Should I go for Maya whole software or the modelling part only ?

If the modelling part only, then

Do you know the institutes who teach modelling sepertly in detail ? Plz give their names.

hi deepam
okay firstly i would like to mention you that there's not much difference in Maya and 3DSax. Though these two are different applications they can result similar output. The major thing that varies is the UI. Once you are used to the interface....u're done.
You may check out in any institute and ask them whether they could teach u a specific part...i guess they could arrange so.
All the best !!

Hi Deepam,
As dropdeadfriend said, both are allmost same, only u shd know the interface..........There are lots of institute which will teach u modelling like
MAXIMUS(mumbai -Andheri), Thaksha(Banglore-advanced modelling), graphitte(mumbai), AIGA(asian institute of animation and gaming), IIga(international institute of gaming & animation), ID animations & arts, picasso animations, ants etc..........also ucan also find online learning like gnomon workshop, studio bee, Think thank, UAT game design etc....
There are DVDS through which u can get a clear n better idea........
But wht my opinion is if u want to go seriously into modelling stuff then its better u join some good company where u can work as well as learn(as u know max) n will give u a better prespective..........or try some good Institutes outside India............:)

I know some canadian and US institutes are best, but can't go there.

hi deepamthe

i have learned only maya so i will not be able to tell u the exact difference between max & maya but according to what i have heard the main difference is of the interface. thats not too hard to cope up.

the most important thing is to decide on the field of specialization. if u have decided u want to be a charecter modeler then just learn modelling. there is no meaning learning texturing, animation, lighting or rigging......
i have learned at GRAPHITI SCHOOL OF ANIMATION in mumbai. its an institute started by Mr. Ram Mohan. there we had specialization training in
modelling, animation .......... they make us really perfect in our specialised field. all the things are taught in through detail.they create the exact environment of a studio. so we get to expirence the work pressure & deadline pressure that we have to face in any studio once we start working. the best part of GRAPHITI SCHOOL OF ANIMATION is they have there studio in the adjoining building. so we get the chance to interact with the people like the HoDs from the studio.

for me it was the best dicision i could have taken to get into this field.
hope this information helps you.
