Ravana –The demise of Meghnad

The concept

Its one of the most important part of Ramayana, as well as Bengali literature. Ravana though the villain in Ramayana was a great loving father. He was deeply hurt when his loving son Meghnad (Megh-cloud +Nad-roar =Meghnad-the roar of cloud) was killed by Ram .Ravana who was also known as Dashanan (dash-Ten + Anan-Face = Man with ten faces) expressed his emotion through his ten faces, which portrayed different emotion of utter sorrow ,like anger, frustration ,pain, madness etc. Poet Michele Madhusudan Dutta has artistically captured all this great emotional empathy in his famous creation of literature ‘Meghnad Badh’ Kavyagrantha.
Now my concept is to portray the same emotion through my digital sculpture. I know it’s a very ,very tough job but I couldn’t resist myself when last night this idea hit my mind.I did a rough and quick concept sketch of that:

Beside this huge task I am getting very short time because I will be out for my vacation on 23rd of Nov so in my case the deadline is just 12-13 days .I don’t know whether I can finish this or not or I even don’t know what will be the quality of the sculpture ,but am sure that I will be definitely enjoying this roller coaster ride of this sculpting challenge.
Best of luck for all the competitors and I hope the same from them.

hmm. nice update... seems like ur in a big hurry.. tho im still wondering that.. in ur concept art.. the left hand was up in the air.. but in the model now the right hand is up in the air. any specific reasons for doing so? and also the fact that in the concept .. there was one main head that was bigger and it has almost centered.. which gave it something to focus on.. tho right now in the model what is happening is that its .. kind of looking like a huge body with 10 small small heads.. that equate with the shoulder and all..

the concept art was a just a mere representation of my idea this time I didnt had much time to do a proper artwork that will carry the exact specification of the image rather I like to go in my natural flow and will alter elements from time to time. And for the hand position normally a right handed person use to express himself more with rt hand so I changed it in model,Though I dont know that whether Ravana was a rt hander.......hehehehe [;)]

Hey....
Nice to see you here....

Hmm.... the character is really cool.
Actually I also want to make stylish Ravan but now I am busy with company work.. But I will try to make..
So you have nice concept.. I have 1 doubt about the concept. I think this concept should more stylish or a bit separate with old Ramlila's Ravan....
And did you made two models? Ravan and meghnad?

Nice starting dude......
Keep detailing,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,

just great ! no words no crits ..
how do you manage tri faces .. i mean in zbrush u cannot take tri faces u must have quads .. how to manage them ?

Digital 3d ,veroo18 thanx for ur appriciations.

Digital3d@I tried to make it a bit stylish by distributing the heads around the shoulder while I didnt wanted to change the total traditional look. And I dont think I will det time to model fullbody of meghnad instead I will only sculpt his seperated head as I mentioned in my foirt post.

Veroo 18 @ Zbrush accepts tris but wile rendering the disp map it creates problem but as we dont have to colaborate between softwares I left 2-3 tris in the base mesh in negligable areas if u see my base carefully u can find99.99% of the polys are quads.

You might want to block out the basic forms much better before starting on the muscles and such especially since you are not working from a detailed low res mesh.Nice concept !

I think you need correct the arm (which is up) the deltoid part is not formed properly and also somehow it seems like the humerus is twisting... look into it.
maybe im not able to picture it properly by this angle.

good job on the piece, its a step better than your previous work and that counts.

you are donig many of the same mistakes that you did with your previous work though; the forms and the structure lack attention and are very blobby. Thats smoething you could improve on in yuor next work.

goodluck
