It's again Amazing challenge.. I also want to make as like this sculpt but didn't get the time but now I have an reason to make that:D
I am in and soon I post my own thread with concept.
I learned zbrush and mudbox and this is the time to see what I learned.
I take this challenge as my annual exam of sculpting (but I have only 1.5 months to learn zbrush).
I know I will improve my skills by this challenge. I think this time also a huge numbers of entries are submit there work here........

hey nice one it will be fun working on this challenge but i have some questions
first one is the same like crunk has asked shuld it be a full body sculpture or we can do a half body also...n 2nd thing can i use some of my frnds concept art for modeling with his credits n permission...

when are the questions gonna be answered cause i have to start the concepts.. anywys i have another question... when u say sculpting challenge.. does that mean that it has to be made completely in zbrush or mudbox.. or can the mesh be made in maya and then finer detail can be added in zbrush.. and by sculpting does it also mean that the final output should looked like clay, stone or thers.. as tho carved out of some thing. like a sculpture..?

Since a Posed sculpture cant be done with half a body and this sculpture would entail a base for it to stand on which also has to be designed ,and we mention sculpture and not bust.
Its the full body.
Since you can't model a base mesh in mudbox and our challenge is for mudbox users also, you can model a base in maya or 3dsmax etc and use it.If you think you can sculpt till all you need in maya and need zb or mb only for fine detail it is ok.
Its mentioned that texturing is not going to figure in the judging process so stone clay render is not important.
the concept art has to be your own.
Sculpting means specificlly we dont want t-pose animation ready models but digital sculpts of concept designs!

Not necessary from Greek or Indian Mythology.But you could use it as a starting point as long as it doesn't look like existing portrayals of the character.

Please note point 2 .original concept.
But say you make an Indian character like Ganesha and you do the standard cliched one with dhoti fat belly anklets etc ,representation,it wont qualify.But a fresh new concept of your own design will qualify.

i have the same doubt.. but i suppose it means that the concept should not have resemblance of any existing artwork but the character can be one of the existing mythological character or creature..

Yup the character "could" be an existing one but the character design has to be a redesign.

thanx for clearing all the doubts but one thing which i wuld like to clearefy, which is like do we have to create a our own new mytho character...with no resemblance to the existing GODs n all ..........or is it like ,m thinking of modeling the VIRAT ROOP KRISHNA frm MAHABARAT so can i do tht but in a all new diffrent way all the elements of KRISHNA will be the same but the design n look n mood will be a new kind of thing ?

AS long as there is an original concept and original design for all elements its ok.
Since Krishna will be a young Indian male thats what you can take from the existing description,rest you will have to design from ground up .Please do understand that the idea of this challenge is to promote original content.

I want to participate in the challenge but I am a little messed up with the rules posted here although its already been answered but I couldnt get what that exactly meant so again ,
When its a an original concept then I think that we cant take existing mythological characters as such , As I am thinking of making a sculpture of "lord Shiva". Even If I change the thing as to say "so called " my original concept but then I have to make it look like lord shiva with the traditional assesories and look to make it visually recognizable.The only thing I can do is to stylize the whole thing and give somewhat a new look containing the traditional aspect also!!! Like when its shiva I have to put a trishul or otherwise if I put somthing else then it wont be a mythological character as we cant change the MYTH aspect .The only thing we could do is to change the style but not the concept as such !!! Am I right ???

ya @Eklavya m also thinking the same thing....if we can take a existing character then we cant change it 100% we have to maintained its actual looks n elements ...ya but we can make it more stylized ......

n if we have to make a our own new mytho character then i think we shuld nt use any of teh existing character like Krishna ,shiva n all...can anyone plz clear my doubts plz.....so i can start working on it

Eklavya ,Ritz ,You dont have to go by cliches like trishuls etc ,character can have some base but essentially has to be a redesign which means all accessories . You make up the description you want ,you sculpt it.Idea is that old artists came up with the pictures you are carrying in your head
why don't you come up with some new ideas for the future.

Existing character= Reinterpretation ,Redesign(could have some recognizable elements but have to be upgraded in design)= your sculpture.
new character (set in Indian Mytho or greek but your own creation), Design= Your sculpture
both are acceptable for the competion.

Siju i havnt model anything in zbrush or Mudbox but i will try my best to deliver a decent product.....n will be needing sme help frm u n all the tantrics inthis learning process by this challenge

Hi, I have a big doubt on this concept. For e-g if i decided to do ganesha in my own concept as per rule, like he should not have fat tummy, elephant head, dhoti etc... and i am doing some kind of hulk or spiderman(not specifically) character and name it as ganesha, is that fine?
If not, why should i select an existing character ? And also ganesha's only identification is his elephant head?

Pls clear my doubt.

so,does that mean we will have to create our own concept and then create a sculpture out of it? or do we have to take someone from indian or greek mythology(eg. hercules) and redesign him as our own original design and model him?

Sorry Brother, The Date cant be extended. We have to compile the entries, get them reviewd and announce the winner at the cgTantra Anniversary Event on 2nd December (http://cgtantra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8820).
