Hi guys,
I want to know how to create a Map which includes bump map, diffuse map n specular maps which is being applied on model. Also whats the individual charaterstics of this map like why would we create bump or diffuse map n wht does it do? By creating this texture we get a real time feeling.I saw most of the people in the industary use such type of texture. I tried a lot but cant achive the thing, so plz anybody from the industary can explain the procedure for creating this 3maps..........

Regards,
viral

Diffuse colour refer's to the colour/texture of a illuminated object as seen by our eye. every object has a unique diffuse this is what makes every obeject unique.

Bump map refer's to the surface abberation/"roughness" of a object it is used to simulate surface deatails and depth Eg: smooth plastic or a shiny metallic object normally would not have a bump map but a objects like brushed metal ,bricks, rough wood, concrete etc would need a bump map to show the roughness/coarseness on the surface. most often "99%" of the time the bump map is a grey scale image which is either extracted from a diffuse or handpainted by the texture artist in photoshop.

specular map is a map which specifies how much light is refelcted off a object
at a specific point. this map is normally used for achieving a high level of control over the objects specular levels.

regarding the specifics of creating the respective maps will be covered in the next post today evening

my query is wats the diff between diffuse and color map

They are same. For certain copyright issues different 3d programs use different terms for the same feature. For example something called 'Jiggle' in Maya might be called 'Flex' for 3dsmax.

this is the Diffuse map

this is the Bump map
<a href="http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=handbumpmm8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/1637/handbumpmm8.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>
this is the specular map
<a href="http://img299.imageshack.us/my.php?image=handreflectionqs4.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/2127/handreflectionqs4.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

note- do not confuse between specular map and reflection map. specular map is used to indicate the specular intensity over a object. I.E - its a gray scale image similar to the bump but reflection map is usually a "environment map" used to fake reflections

so why does not lambert material support specular map
or if i wanna texture a human skin how to go about it

Descrpition of Lamber shading material - Creates a matte surface without specular highlights. Lambert is the default shading material.
source - maya help reference. in simple words u cant get a specular hilglights with lambertian material. uselful for simulating rough surfaces such as bricks, concrete. all this means u cant get specular highlights with lambert shader.

lambert shader can be sufficient for creating elementry skin material. besides good/realistic looking skin especially for games has to do more with finely painted texture maps rather than materials in maya. you can try creating a procedural skin texture in maya

sorry about my second post consecutive post. i wanted to create this post to clear the confusion regarding "colour" and "diffuse"
1) In Maya the "Colour panel" refers to the diffuse map
2) "Diffuse panel" refers to "Diffuse intensity" which could be controlled with a slider which affects the entire map or with a "Alpha map" which can selectively control the Diffuse level in a particular region the
3)In 3DS max there is no seperate panel to control "Diffuse intensity" but similar results can be achieved by using a mask map under the "Diffuse Colour" slot.

btw my apologies to the original topic poster for hijacking his topic.

@ viral
dude I'll try to mail u a p.s.d file containing all 3 maps on separate layers if u can gimme your e-mail mail address

[NOTE:- Before proceeding, you must have your lowpoly model properly unwrapped so there's least amount of pixel stretching, and that it will be essential.]

- Have both your lowpoly and highpoly shown in the viewport.
- Select the lowpoly and hit '0' (zero).
- The RTT window will open.
- If you don't, learn how to use it from the 'Official User Reference' (not the tutorial).
- Just make sure you don't enable 'Automatic Unwrapping' inside it.
- Then manually adjust the cage so it bakes the normal information of the highpoly as precisely as possible.

This is just a hint towards the direction where you should head. I'm sorry that I don't have the time to make it all 'descriptive'. :)
