Hi, I thought I'd putup my recently finished 3d fanart of TMNT here,

click the images to view at full resolution :

Comic Book version :

Viewport Screenshot of the scene :

Renders of the Body :

http://sriramatrix.3dnitz.com/gal3d/2007/tmnt_zb3ren1small.jpg (http://sriramatrix.3dnitz.com/gal3d/2007/tmnt_zb3ren1.jpg)

For the design,I went for an comic/organic version of the tv series (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/cartoon/2003/colortmnt.html) I stuck to the design but at the same time I wanted it to feel more fleshy and less cartoony,so I'm tried to add bits of real turtle into it. The poses were completely based on THIS (http://sriramatrix.3dnitz.com/gal3d/2007/tmnt_ref.jpg) reference.

I didnt texture the models as I wanted to move on,but I'll surely get back to this sometime and make a game model for a mod.

Software used: 3ds max,Mudbox,zBrush,Photoshop

I hope you guys like it,I would love to hear your comments.

Thanks for checking :)

Very nice modelling work there :clap: :clap: :clap: I followed the WIP link also , plain colors but very nicely done !!!
I just want to know that do u take the "Rigged low base mesh" and then sculpt for different poses or u just take the displacement map out of Mudbox and then displace the "low base mesh" already rigged for different poses ???? , I hope I didnt make it too complex to understand :D !!!!!

But keep it up !!!!

sriram

Thanks guys :)

@Ekalavya : The poses were achieved by using the "Import as Layer" option in Mudbox. I just had to rig the basemesh and import the various poses as layers onto my finished sculpt [the sculpted details automatically get updated]
I usually use a displacement map,but since my models dont have UVs,I got the hires models into the scene. This is also the reason why I couldnt use GI/Vray [not enough memory]

Hi "sriram " nice explained the thing but as I don't know about Mudbox can you tell me briefly that if the thing is also possible in "ZBrush".

Hay,
The viewport render is ok but the details r not to be seen in that, can u pls do the renders as the one below the viewport render as in front ,side so on, or can u pls make more clear by using some lights in ur viewport it too dark,
it would be good to see that ...
Total Respect,

@Smooth: Thanks :) and thanks for answering Ekalavya's doubt

@n2to3: Thanks dude :D

@Rohit: Thanks man :D I didnt make it for any game,this is fanart/personal work I did because I love TMNT. I made this as a "goodbye" to my mouse....my last digital sculpt using mouse ;)

@koolnits: Thanks dude,about updates..well,I dont know when I will get back to this..bu surely will texture these guys someday ;)

@rony: for the RAM+CPU that I have [2 GB,P4 2.4 GHz cpu],its impossible for me to import the highest detail models of the 4 characters into 3ds max...thats why I imported lower divisions and made a simple render. I'll hopefully get a better pc soon so that I can deal with more polys ! :)

Thanks for the render man ....
tell me one thing do u do the regging and skining to the character or u give it to some one ......
thats my problem the T pose some is not as impressive as some dinamic one...

I do the rigging myself :) I use character studio [biped] for the rigs.
I prefer to rig a model in a semi-T pose [a slightly relaxed T,kinda like an arrowhead] as it gives a better idea of the character when modeling and at the same time allows for easy rigging

sriram

Thank you CGTantra, for the frontpage plug :) I'm glad that my last character sculpt with the mouse is getting more attention :D Now I gotta wait for Crysis to comeout so that I can make a textured gameversion of these dudes and put them ingame !

@sunnydaniel,jigu : Thanks guys,glad you like it :)

@gaurav: Thanks Gaurav,glad you like my work ; about Mahabharath, it was fun working with them back then..but I havent personally seen any progress from the developers since September 2006 [thats when I quit freelancing with them,and started learning from scratch : Dawn,The Dinotaur which actually startedout as an Anatomy and Character Study].
I have no idea when the game will be released though.

I've been very busy with deadlines lately,so nothing new since Shankit; gotta get back to Shankit sometime and give him a proper ending...he is my first character with the wacom afterall ;)

I'll take this opportunity to share a recent article that I've added to my website. Its my advice to beginners who are interested in 3D Character Creation ,take a look if you are interested : http://sriramatrix.3dnitz.com/myadvice.htm

Feel free to pass the advice to your friends, I would really appreciate that

they are so identical

sriram
22-11-2007, 03:22 PM
@mukks,fawwadhussain,anusankar : Thank you :)

@mayur : haha,dude,thats an overstatement; Zack is a great inpiration, and I'd learnt a lot from his training DVDs. I always eagerly look forward to new DVDs by him fort he very simple reason that he always talks about concepts, not the tools.
I never try or hope to become someone else,I always try to be a better me :)

@truthhunter: Thank you. As for the similarities with Dawn, you can see for yourself in the following picture. There were ,quite some anatomy issues with my Dinotaur,which I tried to fix in my TMNT. And there are a lot of issues with my TMNT too,which I tried to address in my Shankit[theres a hell lot of issues with him too,which I'll be getting to as soon as I'm done with my exams ;) ]

http://sriramatrix.3dnitz.com/gal3d/2007/zb3taur.jpg

The TMNT design is based on the cartoon version as I mentioned . And the only similarities of him with the Dinotaur is that they are both humanoid creatures and character-wise,theres a hell lot of difference.

hey it nice that you worked a lot on anatomy

THATS is beyond Amazing. You guys are so talented. I can't wait to start learning 3DS MAX & MAYA. Where can you learn Zbrush from. Any ideas?

sriram
28-02-2008, 11:37 AM
@truthhunter: Thanks:)

@jazzistoobad: Thank you,glad you like it :) About zbrush,you can learn it from the following resources :
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/index.php
or get the Intro to ZB3 DVD by Meats Meier from : http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/mme04.html

zB/Mudbox are just tools and you can achive the same thing using either of these. What matters is your understanding of the subject you are sculpting. So I would also suggest you to start lookingup human/animal anatomy if you are interested in creating characters and creatures.
