Hi...
IK/FK blending concept:
Animate with both IK (Goal based motion) and FK (Rotation based motion) using the same rig.
Advantage:
Using FK to animate allows full control over the motion of a hierarchy such as an arm or leg. However it becomes difficult to create simple motions that involve interacting with something in the environment (i.e. a hand on touching a desk or a foot resting on a floor). IK makes up for this by driving a hierarchy to follow a goal. However since you are compressing a lot of control into your goals it becomes difficult to create certain poses when goal based motion is not required.
Different people like to use different methods for animating. some prefer FK arms, some IK. sometimes, you really need an FK approach for a particular animation, while other times you need an IK solution. for example, animating someone bowling. FK would be the easiest way to animate a bowler. While someone doing handstand lends itself to IK arms.
so basically, a flexible rig has FK/IK switching
By blending between both hierarchy motion systems you can use whatever suites the situation best.
