Hi
Almost all institutes in India are same ,as we all know they are here for one reason making good money not providing good education. As most animation companies have now started their own animation institutes and they also promise of enrolling the candidates in their own company .so be careful.
I think those who are interested in learning 3d should ask these few questions before joining any institute.

1.Do the faculty have industry exposure(generally those who have industry exposure never wanted to become a faculty).

2.Experience of faculty in animation or modeling(go for skill oriented program not software oriented)

3.Which is the cheapest(it doesn't matter if you paying thousands or lacs you will find same quality of coaching).

4.How many classes in a week (the more the better)

5.Do talk to ex-students of the institute and try to find do they have jobs or not and how does institute help them in finding a decent job.

6.Always check the ratio of students to faculty in one batch the less students the better it is.

7.Also try to find out course fee to starting salary ratio(generally even after paying lacs of Rs institutes offer you very low salary job.)

8.Always bargain on fee all institutes tend to reduce their course fee if you insist them.

all u need to learn is

1. A high speed internet connection
2. good config machine

Download terra bytes of tutorials from torrent sites , private trackers ,etc

Join forums such as CG tantra, CG Talk,3d Kingdom 3dm3,Vfx talk
and get critics from international artists and indian artists as well.

in the End ur Demo reel matters no one bothers where u studied or who ur faculty was.

as for now india has not Fully developed in providing good education for animation
right now there is a race with in themselves to make good money.. well as always there are exceptions.

well if u join an institute or school they can give u a start and
one thing that u wd miss if u study be urself is "Inspiring Classmates"

well if u can afford international universities like VFS,SCAD,...etc Go for it!

and if u are gona join MAAC delhi or any where, internet is ur Best resource to learn and update urself to the new techniques and tools...

all the Best!!

I totally agree with "warriorash" and "yogesh" what they mentioned is a bitter truth of this industry and of the so called animation institutes opened here in India. But there are some very good institutes also who's reputation, teaching methadologies and job placement ratio is very good comparing to all the biggies in the industry who showcase them selves as an industry leader in this education.

If you can afford to go abroad then VFS, VanArts, Gnomon, Seneca and Sheridan schools are the best to go for. There is also an online school named "AnimationMentor" which is very good at what they teach and their faculties are the industry top most people working on big animation and vfx studios.

But if in delhi you want to join then i would suggest go for " Picasso Animation College " that is the only college which is very good for learning animation as a skill. You can go to their website (www.picasso.co.in) for more information about their faculties, job placement list and other details about courses. They have a record breaking result of 100% placement in India and all their students is being placed in top most animation studios in India.

Always remember one thing don't focus on softwares they are just a tools, focus more on your skills specially in this field.

Best Of luck.

hi
MAAC is good but before going thru any institute hav a proper Research about Courses Offered , fees structure, Placement Facilities and Faculties Exposure to the Industry.
I think if u opt at Delhi, Picasso college of Animation is quite Good.you can opt for that one.

Yes, I agree with all of you guys. It only depends on Us, not the institutions or the teacher. Everything is Business. But when we go to institutions it just help a lil to learn more quick, thats all. If we are really interested and hard working, we can do by ourself, no need of teacher or institute. We can find tutorials on the internet, book shop and every where.

I went to Delhi MAAC, but now if I were to start over again, I would put Geko in the first list.

from my first post, i wrote that i would choose gecko. the reason is all about the fees and the internship. But no one will be up against MAAC till now. If you finish ur course from MAAC and if you are really good at it, I'm sure you could be in those one of the most popular company.

again and again i am seeing the same topic... which institute is good ???...

guys it depends on the faculty not much on the institute,
make some friends with students who are already studying in those institutes and enquire about the faculty and teaching methods..

as far as i know no institute is providing with super high config system, so that u can practice on it.
about placements- if ur wrk is good u will be to get in anywhere u want to, colorful certificates doesn't matter
Internet is ur best resource.

i simply attracted towards this thread due its topic & very much eager to know which is the best institute & what other people think about these institutes

************

What yogeshsherman said is a universal truth & applies to all institute. Questions provided by yogesh will work as acid test for these animation institute. thanks to warrior horse for providing such helpful guidelines. I paid a huge sum of money to a animation institute & still missing something - that i want to learn. believe me ruchika u r lucky to ask such carrier question on tantra forum & I missed this opportunity & had a bad experence. six month back I don't even know such forums & tutorials are available on internet, after registering on tantra I found tons of resources & tutorial for learning, even my institute provided me tutorials to follow. literally I paid for the tutorials which are already available for no cost over the internet . Even some of our faculties agreed that they learned from their friends , elder brother & sister with out any formal animation course. Now I regret my decision which i made six months back for joining a institute , still my knowledge is incomplete & i am with out a job & feel cheated by the institute. And the most surprising fact is - these institute will offer you hard cash for reffering new students. Now, after all these traumatic experience I am happy with my self paced learning with books , tutorials & internet resources.

And , finally I want to mention that I am not doing any negative marketing against any institute , just sharing my experience with other fellows. ( therefor i didn't mentioned any institute's name. Because last time when I mentioned one of the name, tantra moderated my post, so I request tantra not to moderate this post in order to strengthen my belief that tantra provide equal platform to the advertising institute & forum users for sharing their views)

i m new to this industry...dunno much..n m a student of MAAC
i dunno vat people had experiencxes with but my 2 months experiences is good...i think m somewhere ven i see the work of the best students of other instis...some of the instis actually show the work of some famous CG artist n claim its from thier students...u can join MAAC pitampura..cuz the faculty the machines the environment...n (if u can feel it) the MADNESS for doing that breakthrough something...is always there

but rest aside...i would just say an academy is as goos as the passion within u..

best of luck for ur carrer :)

Spot on. I think even Gnomon Workshop offer online courses. IMHO these online school have better curriculum and professional teacher than the one at MAAC (or any other similar colleges). They are much cheaper than going abroad, and they are money worth spent.

Like many of suggested, there are tons of schools in India(and abroad too BTW), which are just there to take away your (or your parents) hard earned money, but offer you squat. Beware of such colleges.

Ironically, on the front page of CGtantra, there is advertisement for such a school. "Whistling Woods International", which serves as prime example of such college

Apparently this school, which is promoted by Subash Ghai, offers all kinds of vague course for international price, eg 8 lakh (US $17000)for 3d anim course.

http://whistlingwoods.net/tuition.asp

When I checked up for the faculty, it was just ...well...I can't even describe the word. There is no info at all about the credentials of the faculty.

And the head of the 3d academy is a producer, not even a animation director or movie director. For those of who are new to the CG world, a producer job in the animation industry is that of a manager. He doesn't need to have any technical/artistic skill, but has to ensure the show is completed on time and within budget. That's like asking the CEO the maruti to teach you as to how to fix your car as a mechanic would.

Compare the faculty here to VFS

http://vfs.com/faculty.php?id=7

or

Animation Mentor

http://www.animationmentor.com/index.cfm

Atleast the animation mentor course cost only US $15800

The most funniest courses WWI is offering are editing and Cinematography.....Two years to learn how to use a software and how to hold a camera!!!!!! What a joke!!!!!!! These should be basic part of the Film Making curriculum.

I hope Ruchika, then whatever decision you take, will turn out the best for you. In any case, keep coming to the forum. We are all here to help each other.
