hi.. i really donno if i could post this...
this was a discussion goin on in another forum...thought 2 bring it 2
tantra..

_____the moderators please ratify this piece if you deem it fit here...

---------------------------------------------------------- ---------
Hi guys
i have been in this field for many years and have seen people like
jadoo, UTV, DQ, crest adn many others who bring work to India in
cheap rates adn make this industry look green.
Our cheap rates make the whites say "WWOOOWW" and they are ready to
give us this bulk chunk of work. again the quality is a question.
forget about quality. think about the chances of job opportunity in
the west... the local residents dont get the job even the people who
intend to go to west for a job turn back after disappointment hering
the giant comoany's work is being done in countries like India and
China.
so. whos the profitm maker in this business??
we artists, those guys in marketing for such work or the people
runing studios here? and whats the pay we get?
comeon lets do a little research...

whats the average 2-3 years experienced 3d artist gets in US per
month ?
20k - 30k US$ per month thats "BIG ONE"

WHtas ur income in ur stidio?
10-12k for a 2-3 yes experienced "HA thats pain"

Comclusion: My point is if u guys gonna work for some international
project of course with keeping in mind good quality like pixar, i
advise u ask good salary. lets work out a salary chart in this case

wht do u say ??
think about it...
---------------------------------------------------------- ----------
..the reply was...
Gr8 going !
I must appriciate your thoughts...
Let me add some NAKED facts to our sucking EDUCATION system...
Tell me how many years you spent learing ARTS ?
Any Insitute / School / University ?
Which degree ? Expertise ?
What do you think about your school ? How good was that ?
Frankly speaking, I'm searing one really good institute that teach me
COMPLETE - In Depth knoweldge about PARTICULAR thing, for which, I'm
contacting them ! I found NOTHING...
I worked with IMAGE MAC ACADEMY for 3+ yrs as Senior Faculty. They advertise
like they are the only MAC PROFESSIONAL. But, let me clear one thing, they
don't teach MAC, they teach only SOFTWARES available on MAC (which are
avaialble for Pc too) I know, what & How much we're ORDERED to teach
students. Also, sometimes, I've to teach the softwares I didn't even know,
in the absence of related teacher. Anyway, this is all about personal
teaching...
What about JJ / Raheja / Rachna arts schools ?
Recently I came across one funny incident. Student of J.J. Shool of arts,
contact me for his final year's project. He needed little Technical help in
case of web related query. He too is not very much happy with his 4 years of
study @ JJ. According to him, they have computer lab of 20 PCs, which is
always CLOSED and no instructor available for this and once in a while they
open this lab for PHOTO Session, conference, seminars, etc and NOT for
students practicle.
Anyway, this is all about our Sucking Education system.
Lets take a look into Professionalism.
Say for example, I'm having 3-4 years of experience. And what you mention
about salary is very much true. We people are working on sh*t only. Here, in
Indian Industry, we are meant to work on QUANTITY BASIS and not for Quality.
I know, it really hurts. But, try to find of fact about blockbuster movies
like SHREK, Finding Nemo, Incredibles, etc etc etc.... They says, it took
them 1-2 years to finalise the storyboard and then, within 6 months they
came up with such mindblowing work. What about such process in India ? Early
in the morning, your immediate boss comes to you and order you to complete
this work by tonight. Fail to do so, you work for the whole night just to
meet THEIR dead line. DO you really think, this way you can IMPROVE yourself
? Will you ever learn about QUALITY in such a case ? Meantime, you are
creating your demo reel of such nasty work only, which didn't meet
international quality. So, don't ever compare your salary with theirs.
I'm sorry for such BAD words, but, my 10+ yrs of experience taught me this
only. Even after 10 yrs I'm not able to find an Interview call from abroad,
neither they consider me as prospective employee.
For this reason, I'm planning to join VFS - 1 year course. I know, at this
stage of life, after investing 10 yrs into work, this step seems silly, but,
I'm ready for this. I want to improve myself. Belive me friends, Have you
ever tried to look at their STUDENT's work ??? Their work is far far far
better than our professional one's !!! I'm NOT talking about some really
genius guys, but, I know some people, who are good at software skills but,
lack artistic sense. I FALL IN THE SAME CATEGORY.
Last Saturday, I visited VFS office in Mumbai - Bandra. The meeting was
little dis-appointing with the fact that, they don't provide 100% job
placement. But, some of my friends / online help / guidence from Past VFS
people, encourage me to join VFS and try it once. The reason behind this is,
their teaching standards. According to admission advisor & VFS passouts,
you've to give 14-16 hrs a day for complete year, which will give you bright
future.
Anyway, I'm not going to convience you to join VFS, as I'm not guy from VFS,
this is just my thoughts, you better come up with your ideas / visions. Do
spend some time with yourself, ask yourself, where you want to be after 5
yrs, whats ur aim ? Want to work for whole life ? Want to start your own
studio ? Want to work as freelancer ? Want to give something really frutiy
future for upcoming students ?? Just decide and act accordingly.
Sorry , for being such a logn.... But, I'm facing frustration from past
few months just because of all this fact. I know, I may be out of topic
somewhere, but, all I said is what I felt.
:)
With Best Regards
