View Full Version : Rigid or smooth bind???

Hello ,
Am very much new to maya..am working on my 3d project now...but am stuck into skining part..my character is very simple n lil cartoony..so can any one sugest me to what skining should i go for..should i go with "rigid" or "smooth" bind...so which one is the good for production..and good for my character.... ...??

Hi Naresh!

You should go for smooth bind for the simple reason that smooth bind allows you to wieght of one vertex on more then 1 joint while in rigid bind a vertex can have weight of only 1 joint which will give you a problem at bends like elbow,knee where you need to have weight smoothened out and to be present on more then one joint.

Thank you very much Unbreakable..but now the problem is if i do smooth bind then am getting problem in elbow area...it's look like cloth bend...so what should i do for that...do u sugest me some perticular tutorials..or if u have any plz send me..thanks again...

You just have to paint the wieghts at the bend by using paint skin weights and the smooth option in it until the bend gets right.You will have to smooth the edges which are on the left and right side of the edge in the center until the bend gets right.Smooth it out after bending the hand so that u can see the effect.

As for the tutorial there are many out on rigging but not much on skinning just search on google.
