Chris carter <span ="postcolor">modelled and rigged a simple character in 3DS
max 7 for people to use if they want. It uses character studio and has
some helpers wired to the face to control morphing and blinking etc? It
is a bit rushed but someone will find it helpful.<br>

<p>
Here is version 1 of the rig I have called Mike... I haven't tested it
with anything yet and the morph targets are rushed... But I wanted
people to give it a go and give me some feedback before I go any
further. You can use it for anything but commercial work. Here is the

<p><font face="Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif" size="2">This is the full featured Alf rig which I used in "M-Balla-Balla".</font></p>

1. <strong>animationControlsLayer:</strong> This layers contains all the controls</font><font face="Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif" size="2">.<br>
2. <strong>lowPolyLayer:</strong> This layer contains a low poly of the character for fast playback.<br>
3. <strong>animLayer:</strong> This layer contains a non textured mesh for use when animating.<br>
4. <strong>renderLayer:</strong>
This layer contains the shaded and textured mesh. Set the mesh "smooth"
to 1 or 2 before you render. The smooth attribute is located on the
visibility curve below the character.<br>

I recommend creating a reference of the file before you start animating ( File > Create Reference... ).<br>

<P><A href="http://rodri.aniguild.com/things/Alfred.rar" target="_blank">http://rodri.aniguild.com/things/Alfred.rar</A></P>
<P>Eeshita > Maya rigs are generally made and used all around. I guess its character studio thats dominating the max character animation sector so their aint much rigs available. Please post the trouble related to the lowman max rig in a separate thread and we'll definately dig out a solution for it. Lets try and keep this thread very clean for easy browsing of free rigs for others.</P>

The Andy Rig - DOWNLOAD (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/character_rigs/The-Andy-Rig-4697.html)
http://static.highend3d.com/downloadsimages/4697/andyRig.jpg
The Andy (short for "androgynous") Rig was made for students at the Savannah College of Art and Design and is updated based on student feedback. It's meant to play both male and female roles and be generic enough to act in many different scenarios. Multiple hair styles and textures are already available, but more can be added to change the look of the character. Feedback is appreciated and often implemented.
Release v1.3 includes:
-Stick elbows and knees in place ("lock mid" control)
-Stop-Staring type facial setup
-IK/Fk matching on arms and legs embedded into Right Mouse Menus
-Dynamic parenting (space switching) embedded into Right Mouse Menus
-IK/FK spine
-Advanced twist enabled on arms, legs and spine
-Squash and Stretch and bendy arms
-Twist and Gimble helpers
-Multiple hair styles
-Multiple textures
-More coming soon...visit www.johndoublestein.com (http://www.johndoublestein.com/) for updates

Hey guys! Meet Pixo Jr. 2! He’s a joint project by animators Amrit R. Derhgawen (http://www.amritd.com/) and Alex Crouch (http://www.aresanimation.com/). Inspired by Pixar’s Luxo, Pixo will help animators practice animation principles, such as timing, weight, spacing, phrasing, and overlapping. Pixo’s simple, so you can do basic animations without being distracted by a whole lot of gadgets and gizmos that get in the way.
Click here to download PixoJr 2 (http://amritd.blogspot.com/2007/11/new-pixo-jr-rig-version-2.html)
I hope you like it! Enjoy!

lowRobo Free Rig v2.0.1 (http://www.ilasolomon.com/downloads/lowRobo_v2.0.1.rar)
For Autodesk 3ds max 2008 & Autodesk Maya 2008
Released 03/02/2008
lowRobo Free Rig v1.0.1 (Formerly polyRobo)
For Autodesk 3ds max 5 & Alias Maya 4.5
Released 04/2003
A super fast low poly robot rig
History:
I made this character solely for using in an animation competition in cgtalk.com forum (Hapless Hero/Villain), but since that competition was about 'Sharing', I decided to give my dirty, unfinished rig to the hungry young animators! It was a bit popular for a while but soon because of the flaws & lack of advanced controllers it was out of the interest. Recently I decided to update the rig a little bit, keep its simple & fast features & add a few important things like fk/ik switching for arms and give it a little bit better look so my students (and other people of course) could use it for practicing and study. Happy Animating!
