Hi guys,

As far as I know no one in India is producing their own content which can be sold in USA or Europe. Toonz is producing Tenali and Hanuman but I think these have limited potential in USA OR Europe.

Do you guys know of any studio in India who is producing world class content.

We all keep seeing articles from Nasscom and other organization about who will be the next PIXAR from India - but even discussing this article is a joke - no one is producing content even for TV, leave alone Feature film (Lets leave Penta out of our discussion will ya) so how come these so called geniuses are talking something which is not making any sense ?

Crest, I hear is not producing their own content but doing the work as required by their principles, so is DQ, have no idea about Jadoo.

We all keep hearing about chotta birbals and so on, but no international announcement or production ever made by an Indian studio, don't you guys think some one should take this route if we do hope to even see a company which can achieve 1% of Pixar before attempting the next 99%.

We dont have our own characters as well and now a days we see Tom & Jerry licensed characters for advertisements, isn't this crazy, no doubt Tom & Jerry are lovable, but now that the Indian animation is evolving, we don't have any characters other than

TENALI RAMAN

HANUMAN

CHOTTA BIRBAL

JUNGLE TALES ( Any one wanna comment ?)

How much ever patriotic we all may be, but if we were a 5 year old and with so much exposure to International content from Cartoon Network, Pogo and Nickelodeon would we buy any licensed product of the above characters ?

if so what is Indian animation studios doing about this?

hey there andy boy long time no seeee.....
i know what u guys r saying...
u go to any forum or conference all they talk about is content creation...
but what they do ...no body knows...
it's not like there is no story talent in india, there is plenty......
but i have no clue why the so called biggies dont do it.....

does the word "mentality" ring a bell... yup.. you ask a
big time filmaker about storyboarding and he will just laugh at you...
the only word he/she will have for you is..."You have a long way to go
kid" and then this ->

apart from this no company is even going to risk the investment besides
everones happy doing what they are doing!!! .....I mean i can't do
anything to change this but just type stuff at forums like these...

bells?oh yes...
that rings so many bells i feel like santa claus..ho ho ho.

There has to be a way to change it...you know....
None of the artists have to sit down and take that stuff.
Imagine this....what will happen to the
studios if all their animators were a disgruntled.....grumpy
lot....constantly demanding to work on quality films...be it shorts or
features or tv series or whatever?????they will have to listen.....MAKE
THEM.
some times i feel many of the studios are forcing their animators to do lousy work....yech!
Its like asking a boxer to throw his fight so the betting slime balls can win.u know.....
....double yech!

My emphasis was that for any Indian company to produce content it just dosen't have to be mythological or copying some Hollywood flick.

I think in our land of stoytellers we can come out with original stories which presented well can yield good results for India. Take S Korea for example, they started as a sweat shop for US and now they are producing their own content, they have content targeting christmas, halloween and other important festivals in the world.

Have you guys heard of a new animation feature film in production called VALIANT - the story is about a lowly wood pigeon who aspires to the prestigious position of a messenger homing pigeon in the Royal Air Force in World War 2 and how he has to escape the nasty Falcons of the Gestapo.

This is really a great story with a great backdrop of WWII and though there will be humans they will again be in the back drop and the focus will be on the pigeon hereos and the falcon villians - isn't this great

We have to get ideas like these to make a great story work, it can't always be Hanuman and tenali etc, they are ok but their exposure in the REAL world would be restricted to Indian and some asian audiences but a universal appeal story would have the world as an audience.

hey guys.....yeah..been hearin this debate for quite a while too...but
i do know of a few companies who wanna dish out original
content.....and their workin on it..(dont wanna take names
now).......and as far as i see....sorry to always have a different
perspective oneguy....but i think mythology is our biggest
treasure...our ace....our strongest marketing weapon........
if the west can sell us troy ...alexander...and lord of the
rings....the ramayana...mahabharata..and other indian epics are
monstrosities in front of them in terms of story
tellin.....adventure..thrill...etc......like i've said before....try
readin the yudh kanda of the ramayana and the LOTR will look lame...(no
offense to tolkein)

when i started my hanuman on 3dtotal...i had one of the longest threads
and many followed my work religously.....many loved the concept.....and
even with my short film now..there are many waitin to see how it turns
out.....
basically its not our content that sux...but opur packaging.....we just need to represent ourselves better....

ps.s///jungle tales was the worst piece of animation i ever saw
