hi there,

ur question is too open, could end up typing a lot on this but ill try and keep it short.

firstly its important u can draw, cause if u can do that then learning a software is pretty easy. At present most game studios use maya, max and a few use softimage. So learn any one of them properly and the other you will pick up cause only the tools are different while the basic 3d modeling concepts are same.

mainly i think you need to be a gamer, means you play more games and observe how the artwork is done. cause once you start creating your own models you will be able to tell the techniques used easly and hopefully incoroparte them into your work.

Ans finally i think most important is practice making clean meshes, you probaly wont get this from day one but it will surly come with practice.

Just keep at it.........
