hi everyone

last night i saw promo of "Polar Express".

its awesome, the kind of animation, surrealism and vfx they created is fantastic.

They put 152 markers on only face to capture the motion to animate the 3d

character. so guys, guess how many they would have been set on the whole body? and you just watch the moment of cloths and hair of each character, man, we must admit that those sony pictures imageworks guys did it.

any way, i was wondering that is motion capture end of art in animation, i mean, look at the pixar movies , those men use keyframing a lot , as they have to because they just cant put markers on fish to animate nemo.

but its more cartoony style and here in polar express they have achieved surrealism, the director Rober Zemeckis (director of forest gump) said he didnt want to make this in live action and in traditional animation either, so they thought why not to make a digitally rendered movie.

motion capture is much more technical rather than pure art, which is traditional keyframe animation. i mean you can let your mind go as wild as you want it to.

so here is polar express, releasing shortly...

a perfect christmas present to enjoy for animators, filmmakers and kids,

we are in all three categories........ i guess ....!

theres much to learn from everything in life, however good or bad it is!!!!, and this applies to CG too.
WATCH, ENJOY, LEARN AND CREATE.
I personally prefer both kinds of animation.
mocap is useful for getting realism in movies. creating everything from scratch is art. both have their uses......
keep an open mind all u guys......
everything is beautiful.....

i know what u mean....
see ...thats the sad part mocap doesnt bring in realism...(especially
the facial mocap variety)...it just gives it a wierd surreal quality to
it...like the characters are very real looking robots.....
mocap makes sense for games....but animation as a medium has its
stengths and copying reality aint one of them(might as well make it a
live action film then)....ex: Final fantasy....
very good looking...but no juice at all...
what say u????
maybe it dosent bring in realism as u say...... maybe ur right
but they did try sumthing new and they should be appreciated for that.
and as they say , one man's good is another man's evil. so no two
person have the same point of view on anything in life, tats y we r
called individuals......
give two ppl a piece of land and they will divide it instantly, its like that.

i enjoyed final fantasy as much as i enjoyed shrek and finding nemo.
point is there will be audiences for both kind of animations.
eventually one of the styles will die. lets hope we r there to see that
happen......

PEACE, hey wait??!!! soulstation says that.....

Final Fantasy wasnt appriciated for animation but was a major milestone in CG as per technology used by japanese guys.

same here in Polar Express, as i posted earliear director zemeckis told people wont like this in cartoon format and they didnt want to make it in live action so they had only one option " realistic CG ", if you forget the style of the characters and dont compare them with woody or buzz lightyear, they have made magic in choreography and visual fx.

if we talk about motion capture, its more like mimicing real life rather than caricaturing real life what we character animators do.

thats what i think...

hey guys, instead of jumping to conclusions, first let us watch the
movie, dissect it piece by piece and then come back here and post our
views.....
and even after watching the movie, like u guys know, we will never agree.....
so chill out and stop demeaning other ppl's opinions....
respect and be respected
