Hi all,

Posting something I made at work yesterday

Title: Cliffs

Softwares Used: Lightwave 3D, Adobe Photoshop

Development Time: 2 hours

Render Time: 5 mins

Computer Specs: Dual Xeon 2.8 GHz, 2GB Ram

The following has been color-corrected in Photoshop and the Sky/clouds
were combined from photos, color-shifted and painted on just a bit in
Photoshop as well.

The geometery was created in Lightwave from scratch as a very simple
sub-division mesh and then displaced in Lightwave. The surface/texture
is 90% procedural. Total number of polygons: about 300K

And below is the direct output from Lightwave of the same object, but
with the camera closer to the cliffs. This render was done with a
previous version of the textures. The whites in the cliff were replaced
by browns/reds.

More info about it's development such as wireframes and displacements is at http://cgexpanse.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1734

Hey A-Man (Is it K if i call you that?)

Well Saw This on CGX, even The wires, very orthdox aproach.. It was really nice how you explained the entire procedure about geting the basic shape of the mesh and then the bump and the displacements (Tantrics Check out A-man's link)

8/10 For you A-man - Like someone pointed out at cgx a bit too detaild perhaps and theres something bout the top of the cliff or maybe its the sky which is not apealing but 2 hours man, I have to give it to you, Indeed good work as usual And its awsome that you are indeed making your presence felt .

hey amaan,, good to see your work here.. its seem to be coming out beautifully, have cheked out the link too.. very nicely done indeed.. yes the sky doesnt seem to suite the enviro.. wouldnt there be a little colour of the sky on the cliffs.. i mean since your sky is red and blue.. its should throw those colours on to the cliffs...

good work... keep em comin

im a big fan of your work... :P

Hi all

soulstation: yeah, A-man is alright Thanks for liking this image.
Realistically speaking, the rocks are a bit too detailed. but then again, I am going for stylistic photorealism.

polygon: thanks

td.studios: hey, thanks for the kind words about my work .... Like I
said to soulstation, I am going for stylistic photorealism. This means
that while it is not photorealistic as the world around us is, but in
another way it is realistic. the purpose is to make a believeable world
that is different from ours. THe direct output from Lightwave is more
earthly photoreal than the processed one actually, but hey, I like
colors so I just put quite a few into the version that was touched up
in Photoshop (the first image).

There is some blue and red/orange on the cliffs, but as the cliffs
themselves are of a shade that's between red and orange, it is showing
up as purple. U can see the purple in the shadows.

thanks again everyone for the feedback.
