Hi folks!
I rendered some animations and ported em to dvd. when playing back on the pc its fine but when on set top dvd, on tv, the animation shows ropey jagged edges where vertical or angular lines are present. The jaggies are reduced if I make a vcd. But my requirement is a dvd.

How shd I sort out this prob? Is there a renderer setting?

specs: max scanline renderer with filter type area. res:720*576 (pal) only frames NO FIELDS

Thx.
Hey Crimson,

as far as i understand from your explaination i think u might basically
have a pal/ntsc standard mis match somewhere in the process.

the ropey stuff could be because :

a player is only PAL or NTSC compatable [ not multi format ]
b frame rate and field issue
c MPEG 2 ENCODER SETTINGS mis match
d If you are directly burning a dvd from un-compressed footage you
might want to check the settings in your DVD burning software for any
possible settings for MPEG2

alternatively you might want to find out if the burnt stuff works well on other dvd players [ not the one u are using now ]

reason : pcs can show it properly is cause most of the popular software DVD players have auto format swtching

let me know if u need more info

only frames NO FIELDS

i guess thats were the problem is..
if you are doing it for tv....you need to have upper fields first on...hope this helps

edit- just a note....pc's are non-interlaced while tv is
interlaced....that gives you the dreaded jaggies you see on tv when
rendered without fields..

in that case you might also want to check if it plays with progressive scan ok on your DVD player.
films DVDs are output of Digital Intermediate, no fields and will work
on any DVD player with progressive scan feature

Thx rawskull and andy.

Rawskull: 1.I am using philips 642k dvd player which is quite good and international fav. This has both modes and so does my tv and I already tried all combinations.

2.As mentioned my anim has no fileds only frames.

3.Mpeg encoder mismatch ..no idea

Andy: I am getting ropey edges no flicker.

Also I guess I shd try fields inteasd of frames but that means double the rendertime :(

if u think re-render is hell u might wana try interlacing ur footage in any
of the compositing software before u atempt re-render.

OH ! forgot hope u havent got two different frame rates especially
during encoding

best of luck
