Hey guys...well...havent posted in here in a while cos i havent had time to work on any personals... 
but heres a little somethin i had time to work on during my free time at work...... 
this is painted from scratch in GIMP...with colour corrections in photoshop.... 
and it "might" have some perspective issues...cos i started this as a
training exercise to try my tablet.......and ended up detailing it!! :D
 
 
anyways......here it is......hope u like it....c&c welcome :)

OHH  MMMYYY  GGOODD !!! 
 
what can I say but . . . . <img src="smileys/smiley32.gif" border="0"> 
U've set a new Benchmark...GRRRR....it'll take me a while b4 i can get
anywhere close...but the bottom line...IT CAN BE DONE !!!! 
Loved the intricate detail on the feathers, esp on the neck area, where
we can feel the volume of the neck and the layers of feather above
it.Marvelous "shadow tones" on the feathers in the lit up area of the
head n the neck. 
The tone of the "moonlit sky" on the darker shadowy area of Garud is
also outstanding...brings out the detail, without hampering the feel
and mood.. 
n dont get me started on the eye....i'll leave that for the fellow tantrics... 
 
But what bout workin on the body of Garud now ? 
cos it'd be cooler to see this as a part of the entire body...leaving
it like this..has the feel of a "hunting Trophy "...hope u c what i c
here...my perspective only...

hey nice work man really loved the feathers u can just feel each of the strands ..the feel just comes out. really good work .. 
but just that i would like to see more  on the beak it looks a bit
flat..also if u could just remove the black around the eye and add in
more deatils. 
ya just like dry eyez said it would be realy cool to see the entire body ...<img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" alt="Tongue" onclick="AddSmileyIcon'smileys/smiley17.gif'" style="cursor: pointer;" border="0" border="0">    <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0">     <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0">  ...the bottom line is superb work man ..REALLY COOOL.

For a second there I thought it was 3d...but its 2d...that makes it even better!!<img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0"> Top class man....love the lighting.

hey thts nice work out there....im not much into 2d...but as an viewer....i feel there shud sme more.fine bumps on feathers....specially on neck portion.....

thanks guys...well yeah..actually could've done a lot more refining on
this piece but i kinda wanted to move on to somthin new as this had
that perspective issue and i would have had to rework...so this was
never gonna be perfect!!<img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> 
and yeah..whole body!!!...right.....lets leave that detail to 3d!!!<img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0"> 
thanks for the suggestions...will try to maintain the level of detail in my next few works:)

thanks ashutosh....i just wish i could find the time for my own short film ...timeline is somethin i can just think about:<img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0">...maybe some time in the future dude:)

good work vivek...but if u've intended for 3d look...it looks a bit flat...got some minor issues with depth n stuff...but good detailing....gimp is one of my fav. soft. aswell...keep it up

i don't know much about this paintin, proportion n all about the traditional art [ <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0">coz i don't have any art backgroud ] so from a layman's point of view all i can say is :
