hey cool modelling..... i like the work but i find that the thumb area is not proper the thum is thick at the joint
29-09-2005, 09:34 PM
hey harsh...i find something wrong with the hand holding cigar. the pinky finger if in this position it will bend 2nd time also..i tried it...just try it out & point where it bends becomes too thin in ur model. just a view. else everything is just great. that too in 4-5 days. HATS OFF!!!!!!!

hey harsh...good to see some work from u in here after long....
a few crits...
considerin that only his head is non human like....:)
his hand anatomy is off.....the length of each finger...the structure
of the hand....and the position of the thumb is kinda off..
considerin its a thick set hand...the fingers need more thickness...
the knuckles need to flow in an arc from forefinger rising to middle and lowering to the pinky.....
the thumb joint is way too low....thejoint and the arc of the joint to the forefinger have to be more in the same level ....

in the pose...alll the fingers should be relaxed and hence there should
be a slight bend in all the fingers on the second joint..

the knuckles should be more prominent...and the ridges are too deep for
the knuckles...its ok for the other finger joints..but not for the
knuckles.......the knuckle although having ridges is fairly more clean.

the cloth folds look neat....although the fold on the sleeve
looks"modelled".....would look better if we could see it more like a
fold....with the base showin geometry underneath.......and the collar
is too stiff considering the fold on the back of the collar.....
since u did mention 4-5 days..i wouldnt go too far on crits..although facial anatomy does look rushed...
overall anice piece with potential...take it further dude!!:)
Hey Harsh,
I back evrythin that Hell's angels said already...Hes taken away all
the juicy stuff that i was to tell u...NEXT time...maybe....

Had a close look again.NEAT StuFF.
But here are a few, again with the hand mainly. This guy being a skul
head mobster, it'd be cool to make his hand look a bit beefier along
with enhancing the skeletal structure beneath the skin, with a
maze of veins under there too...His palm structure does look a bit
stunted.
another thing for the sleeve is that, this guy being all beefy, his
sleeve must fall short bit, adding to the creases, thus exposing a
bit more of his arm.
n in my personal opinion, if the jacket was aimed at a leather one,
then u might wanna get rid of he cuff fold..or what looks like it and
focus on the omplete sleeve with some cuff links n buttons n all...u
get the idea..!!??

well, thats bout it. n lookie here...i did get some few pointers
of my own too...Hope that added for some constructive CnCs .
This is sweet work but wht I would like to know is harsh ( if ur willing
to answer) the arm area of the jacket as I can see has been edited on
Zbrush to give it the cloth look.. do u wish to animate this char if
yes how can u make the jacket look like one when u animate it, as the
modelling looks execellent in the still image but when animated how can
one carry all the cloth effect on the arm or the jacket??

EDIT: Hey I was jus going through you model wireframe when I found a
tiny bity Triangle on the head.. as far as I know a model should avoid
triangles as far as possible. It might not be important (I am jus new
to this field a mear experience of 1 year, I would say less as my 5
months course at image was of no use) but I hav jus done a drawing
adjustment to the wireframe to make that Triangle a Quad.....

Hosting a image like this makes me feel soo coooll ..
I don wish to spam around so if u want I will remove it. Anyways the
model is already been taken to Zbrush so It might not be of any help
afterall.

vfxmation: Firtsly, what made you think i didnt looked for a job after my studies?? Weird question?

Senondly, I didnt replied to your question last time as the answer is very obvious. As if you are already working in the industry, your should've realised that you need to do a lot of hard work and be ultra creative to survive in this entertainment industry either in India or Foreign. If not then, i must tell you that it really doesnt matter if you are an indian or chinese, british, american or from honolulu. What matters is quality and passion for your work and no one can stop you of working at your dream place. I must agree though here in north america, its a bit tough, as the comptetion is really high and there are already great artists working in the industry ("whose works inspired me a lot and i'm seeing them personally now"). But that doesn't stops a fresh but good atist to find work. If you can give them what they want, you're in. Its a bit more difficult for indians as very few people who come here have tradiotional background or leans towards it whilst their course. But one who posseses true passion towards tradiotional as well as new media, can do it. These are few things that i feel helped me a lot,
1. Believing in yourself and working passionately for what you dream of.
2. Learning and respecting your peers whom you get inspired from. Talking to them and asking them questions.
3. Being smart and have lots of industry links, friends, colleagues, etc. This also includes not burning any bridges as this industry is so small, it doesnt take long to spread a bad word about you.
4. For me personally, most important, thanking god and parents for being where i am. Being loyal to them, love and respect them in anyways.

I have lots of indian friends who are already workign in the industry here. If you wanna live up your dream, reach for it. Put in extra hard efforts and it will pay you back one day. You cant reach top floor without walking step by step.
So hope this answers your questions.

ajaytantra: thanks for your words, i must tell you that i'm really bad at making tutorials or explaning things, but will try my best to make one. You can ask me specifically about something, and i will try my best to answer that. And yeah i will try to texture him. Thanks

Smooth_Criminal: nice observation and i really liked your question about cloth. Ok so what you thought about this example for cloth is right. This model of mine is basically a sculpting exercise for me, and not intended for any animation. So i actually baked a moment of him while in that pose. For making an animation for his cloth, there might be two or more ways.
1. You can make different versions of his cloth folds in zbrush like i did. Like one mesh when he is turning left, anothenr for turning right, bending down, and more, and then use them as morph target and animate acc. to his movements. Thought this method is very limited and will not be as flexible.
2. Using cloth simulation and let computer calculate those complex movements and folds. That doesnt mean you dont have to do anything, but do all the setup required and animate in a way that dynamics does its role and you does yours.

Now about those triangles, i must say you should try to avoid triangles but that doesnt means you cannot have tris in your model. Its just for your convinence that when you have quads, you can work more efficiently. Though this is a debatable issue. For this particular model those tris were working fine for me and while smoothing the mesh, i was getting proper surface. So i didnt really cared for it. So you can have tris on your model. And if you know, everything in mesh is actually made of triangles i.e. a surface with 3 vertices. Quads are just a fancy way for modelers to work easily. If you see all the game models they are tringulated for ingame use. So dont fear it, but use it efficiently.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot guys...i will try my best to update this guy ASAP. Thanks

<edited><editID>harshdesign</editID><editDate>38635.6930902778</editDate></edited>

My only intention of asking u his question was here in India there r so many rumours that even after doing animation course from VFS, students r cming back bcoz of there visa problems It is not that bcoz they r indian or chinese, british, american etc. I have heard that the studios over there r not providing them work visa and only employing them if they already have work visa even tho da work is good. Actually this was the thing I wanted to ask u, Hey buddy but thanx for ur reply, I think you took my question very personaly, never mind.

Great detailing and shading with a few stuff picking me.

To break that ^above comment:-

Great BG/wall
Almost perfect leather jacket and cap. Though I think you might try bringing the specularity down a bit. It looks polished and spankin' new. Making the leather less glossy would add to the mood.
Maybe a slight bit of SSS for the skin. Would look good in the lighting setup you have there.
Maybe some more tweaking of shaders (maybebit of falloff) so it gradually goes on to make the mood "PERFECT".

Damn, more negative comments than positive comments. But assume these negative comments are minor.
