Hi ppl, I have a query regarding memory slots.

I have 3 RAM slots on my nForce2 board.

Currently, I have 256MB + 256MB filling up 2 slots.
I want to have 1 GB RAM.
So I am planning to add another 512MB on the third slot.

Now, I'd read somewhere that if there are unequal amounts of memory in the slots, it creates a speed problem sometimes (due to memory imbalance or something).
Is this true?

I wanted to use up my 256mb sticks till the last, so don't want to throw them away now.

What do u folks suggest?

Hi,
Nothing like that at all. Only thing is if its dual channel you
need to have your total RAM divided by 2...eg for 1GB total RAM...u
will need two sticks of 512MB. I myself use 512MB on one and 256 on
another....so no worries
Cheers,
hi prithvi,
i am in a similar dilemma. and when i tried adding a 512 to my existing
256*2 it would not work. guess it has to do with the motherboard also.

you just might need to get done with your 256*2 and get a 512*2.....
if there is another way out...i would like to know too...
Hi,
Best thing would be to get a dual sided ram...this way you keep
dualchannel...But in my opinion 512MB RAM would any day be better than
dual channel...so like I said it should work alright.
Andy...did you try moving the modules around. This usually
works...I usually put the the newest and largest RAM on the first slot.
Cheers,
