I can only say this dude....

The future is controlled by the events in the present. It is just a tool to make artwork with, free or not free.... Free is just an excuse..... its the person who understands the tool and makes the good use of it.

Whether it has a future is controlled by the artist..... :D

We can wait for it be accepted and then use it.. or start using it and see it accepted. Just my thoughts.......

Following are some works by dedicated artists who are steering the future of the software.

The first ever Open Movie "Elephants Dream" - 2006

The second Open Movie "Big Buck Bunny" - 2008

An Open source game code-named "Apricot" - Still in progress

All thanks to Blender Institute to furthering the development and nurturing of artists. All of the above was possible by The Blender Foundation.

From all this, Yes. it will be free forever. Just like Linux will be free forever.

wow, it's nice to hear. But one question, what is the future in the proffessional industry. Is it possible in India, big studios are working with blender. Hope it'll be but the truth??????????

I dont know if the professional industry in India will be using it, but it can be used to make professional work by anyone who understands it. [ If anyone reading this in India are using it in their professional work, please drop a word :) ]

ProMotion studios in Australia recently made a short called LightHouse using Blender for most part of the pipeline.

As I already said, as more artists use it and create artwork will it gain the userbase. Because it is not a commercial software and not set to replace any commercial application, the artists using it will drive Blender's future. Nobody was forced to use Linux/Unix, slowly and steadily it gained acceptance and is now being used more and more. Also is the case with Open Source Software's like Firefox, OpenOffice etc.,

Blender enables anybody new to 3d to experience all the aspects of 3d work in a single package. Just download, learn and render...
