i know this might sound stupid, but how do i export a model from max to maya8.5 while maintaining its proper structure?

Hello Bluemagica.

Normally, for a static model, you can export the model as an .obj file and then in Maya, import the file.

For exporting animations, try using FBX export or Collada export options. The following links might help you

I dont use Max or Maya, but have seen this question answered on some other forums before, so sharing it with you.
