Hey all...
This is Sonali Garg, from Mumbai. Am currently doing course from Arena Multimedia.Finished with Graphic Designing and Authoring. Now in my 3rd sem which consists of 3Ds Max, After Effects, etc. Am also doing Maya + Combustion course from the same institute. I love 3D modelling and animation...Hope to show u my work real soon....

This is Megha from Crest! First of all Congrats! and Best of luck! to Abhi and Chand and to guys who have built up this site! Guys! this was something which was badly needed for the indian animation industry!
I am a texture artist on Maya, also do Matte paintings! And have a gr8 passion for motion graphics!
Looking forward for new stuff!
and ya before i forget i would like to suggest the Admin guys to look forward for an ANimation meetup, it would really help the people to actually meetup and know each other, it may not be possible so fast but SOME DAY it can!!

It feels so great to have such a nice talent pool in here and gathering so fast. We got a tonnes of good responce from you guys.. but it all goes to you. You make CGTantra a nice place to be. 
Thanx Megg, thnx Andy, its always nice to hear compliments. We will soon start a section to organize Professional meetups. And a seperate chat section apart from the one we have on the home. 
Do let your valuable suggestions flow in, they matter a lot to us. 
Secondly, we need need to spread the use of forums to most of the people who dont know the value of it. Lets inspire our colleagues and cg aspirants to drop in, discuss, put up ther problems and help other people solve thers.

i did my BFA 1994(msu,baroda),3years diploma in animation film making 1998(zica),
my interest of works r animation,graphics,set designing ,mate painting,digital art and paintings.

im 19 year old guy from mumbai... currently doing B Applied Art 2nd Year.. i have got my hands into mostly every software you can thing of..

I am Prithvi from Navi Mumbai, currently doing the Beta Maya course from MAAC (Max, Char Studio + Maya) Academicwise, I am a math grad.
I am pretty new to CG as such. I used to work in the marketing field earlier.....no idea how the graphic bug bit me.......but I really wish that it'd bit me much earlier. I have had a late start in the graphics field. I'm very happy that finally someone had setup an Indian Forum on CG....Its good to see the board full of talent(and I see that there are lots of pros here...)

   I am actually excited to know that theres an Indian CG forum...I used to scour the net for Indian artists .....hardly found any....well I found one guy though...Hell's 'bahubali' angel.....he is the one who told me abt cgtantra(probably to get me off his back cuz I kept buggin him on yahoo....)...and here I am....
    A lil abt me....from Delhi....currently learning maya(need loads of pointers from u guys ...plz)...daily routine consists of meddling with the mouse all day...lunch...more meddling....dinner...more meddling....sleep....and then age at the speed of light...

i have done many architectural visualization projects,
but i was inspired by films to get into CG field, so right now learning

 I'm Abhinab Pattjoshi. I was priviosly working in animation firm (Oyester, chennai)using max, maya, Flash, Photoshop. Now i'm searching out for job. I have done my law degree and an animation and film making course in pentasoft.I write script, animate characters both 2d and 3d, Play guitar, Love movies and cartoon want to do something good in the field of cg. So guys i want a job does it sound evil or purposive to get in the job and work hard. Tell me if there is any cause i live in orissa and want to somewhere where i can get nice job so if any suggestion pls make it where should i go to find out a good job for me.I just introduced myself with complete honesty in a world where honesty is out of touch then its up to u to grant me my wish.

Hi,
 I'm Abhinab oyester was specially a small firm concentrated in ad field. I basically did the job of titling work and props modelling and animation. I generally have done all type of cg job there from animation to modelling(2d and 3d) to lighting and texturing. even some time compositing and concept development. We were a team of ten persons including my boos were usually did the job together as a team. Now myself unemployed due to some personal cause and i want to get back to the field where i fitted best.

i am qualified network engineer but doing this becuase of my interest in this field....

Hi All: 
First of All, I must tell you, it is a great effort to start this
website. Last year when i was attending SIGGRAPH in LosAngeles, in the
indian conference, we were talking about how to improve the quality of
indian CG industry, many MDs of indian Cg industry were there. we were
thinking, if we could arranage an indian counterpart of SIGGRAPH in
india, but one thing I mentioned that at least we must have a web
community to compare the quality of our work. thats is one of the ways
we can really flourish  ourselves AND  here it is. CONGRATS
GUYS and Thanks! 
 
Well about myself...graduate from IIT Kaharagpur, Masters in digital
production from CU, USA...bagged some national and internationa awards
in CG here in USA namely Honorable Mention in SIGGRAPH SPACE, official
selection in Chicago CINEME international animation fest, 1st place in
FLIX on 66(new mexico) and some zonal level awards in southeast USA. 
will be back soon to india to fulfill my (and india's) biggest dream in CG industry....

And I also like to add to it....I am seeing U guys r mentioning like, u
know Maya,Max,XGI and wht not. come on guys..these CG softwares are so
huge and so much to know to be really good on one( not really one, some
part of one), if you are saying you know Maya and Max, i would say, you
are not doing justice to any of these. after spending so many years in
Maya, i feel like i know nothing about it(and i believe if anyone has
gone deep inside of any of these software they will feel the same). 
So, please, if you really want to be good, concentrate on one and go
deep into it, not just using some pulldown menu. as a thumb rule, learn
maya if you r  willing to go to film and learn max if willing to
go to game. 
Actually i can not really blame you guys, someone told me he is working
in a company that uses maya and max both. i would say thats the most
stupidest and unprofessional thing that can happen. I really dont know
how they are managing their pipeline unless they are doing some small
jingles. 

 
 
1. it does not make sense if you are working on the same project using
max and maya.  but it sure does make sense to work on seperate
projects. i know of a studio using these two packages to work on two
different projects. and no problems whatsoever. it's just a matter of
what suits best for execution and it gives a broader base to do new
things. 
what according to you would be small jingles in that case? 
 
2. i am yet to come across someone saying he knows all in maya or
x-software. in most possible cases i've read, its just to bring on a
point that one works in maya or whatever.  besides to do injustice
would it wrong if i said 'yup, i know maya' or 'hey! i'm mr.know-it-all
maya'? 
 
3. i would suggest learn the art behind what you chose to do irrespective of the software. 
 
4. welcome aboard! it's nice to have this forum growing.

Well..Andy let me elaborate myself.

By jingle I mean a 30 sec to 1 min project may be.

Now my point is, say if a company has may be five floating license
of Maya may be they can think of similar another five x-software and ofcourse
that kind of company can make a jingle not more than that, but say if a company
has 30+ license of  Maya, having a
inhouse software unit to make plugins and tools and a render pipeline which is
maya oriented, and bought a bunch of software-plugins which supports maya, is
it wise to have a another similar software put into pipeline? Added to that, in
bigger project u may not want generalists, u want specialized people in
different branches. To me, running parallel software is just not running the
software, it is almost running parallel office, u may not want to do that. But again,
as I said, I am talking about bigger scale here.

I fully agree that one needs to know the art behind the
process. And that?s why I said to concentrate on one software and go deep into
it. I learnt it from my personal experience, these software are so huge, if u
go on jumping between one to another, u will just know them by their pull down
menu only, but if u concentrate on one portion of a software and go deep into
it(to the extent that u can bend it to ur requirements), then u will learn the
real art and technology behind it(software mokhsa?) and then only ur knowledge
will be software independent. Today there is max-maya-wht not. Tomorrow there
will be something else, but one must know how things are working in the
background. But I am not telling every artist to be a software engineer, but
must know the process for their own good.

It is time, we must look at the world, to the best of the
world, to know how the best of the best are created. We need to broaden our

A Big Hi to all CGTANTRICS, this site is a superb effort. Finally we have a community out here. 
 
I'm Sachin from Chandigarh and am working with MAAC as Tech. Head for
North India. My interests in CG narrow down to compositing , Particles
and Dynamics, Shading & Lighting, Scripting and Programming. 
 
I strongly believe in programming skills for all CG Artists. Technical
Directors are so badly needed here on the practical front. 
 
I would love to share and contribute in whatever way possible for this community.

well i am computer engineering student
and do some cg stuff as an hobby.
i'm a starter and do 3d in 3dsmax 6.
i'm also interested in visual effects compositing,
have produced a short film experimenting visual effects
such as matrix bullet dodge and others.
for compositing i use combustion for its particle system
and after effects.currently working on blade trinity partilce
effects used for vampires death.
i also do some game programming on unreal engine and quake 2.

I am Goda, Satish Goda a.k.a "blendernut" amongst my friends. I am from
hyderabad, AP. I am a cg amateur but have future plans to enter the 3D
industry. As for my academic background, I have a bachelors degree in
Mechatronics(MGIT, Hyderabad) and Masters in Computer Science (Stevens
Institute of Technology). I finished my MS in dec 2004 and returned to
India. Right now I am on vacation; In a month or so I will start
applying for jobs (Non cg). 
 
While at stevens I worked as a 3D Programmer in a visualization lab
creating cool tools for network visualization. I love Blender3D, and
have been playing with it for past 4 years. I take part in its
development by testing it and submitting bug reports. I also hack the
code to learn its internals. I havent made any big contributions yet to
Blender, but I hope to in the future. Having said that I have nothing
against the other softwares, i just got the features I need from
Blender.

My self SN RAJPUROHIT...a Grafix Design student at National Institute of Design, ahmedabad.Before coming to NID, I was doing my BFA from Govt. College of Art, Chandigarh. Fortunitely I got selected in NID last yr. and Im quite happy with it. My major interests are Motion Graphics, Visual Effects....and advertising. 
I love maya. Beside this my favoroute tools are After effects, Illustrator, Photoshop and Zbrush.
In spare time I do sketching. Actually I started sketching when I was just 8 year old and now it has become a part of life.

      i m too late but finally in to this group. i m Preksha done maya from MAAC (mumbai). also participated in 24fps  competition this yr & got our project nominated in 'best animated film' catagory. right now i m in TX.

Too bad that I didnt kno of this forum earlier. I used to spend a lot of time at cgtalk. It is really good 2 see an Indian CG forum. I feel I am really late at joining this. But then better late than never. I sense that this forum will be instrumental in the coming years as the Indian CG community expands and evolves. 
Well...I am Smarajit Dasgupta from Kolkata. I did a course at Arena and freelance with Maya, Max, AE. I am looking to learn more and more of CG and believe everything in CG is too tough unless you try it. So I believe in experimenting a lot. I plan to do an advanced Maya course soon (suggestions welcome).
Hope to learn a lot with u guys. Keep up the good work....

I am new to computer graphics..have been doin freelance work in painting, skeching  ( totally hand work) for last 10 years...i hve learnt flash from Rohit last month and enjoying the field of CG...I will post my work soon.

Shashwat this side.....a student of Picasso centennial animation college ( delhi )
have just started doing stuff on Photoshop and will be moving on to Maya as soon our course reaches on to that level....
just yesterday we had a Cgtantra meet in our college and that prompted me to become a member too....
being a member for one day only i was helped in quite a way by different forums and even by some members....which is realy encouraging for ameteaurs like me.....looking forward for more meetups and learning from u guys....
