New silverlight beta 2.0 is now supporting managed languages like C# not only javascript (Silverlight 1.0). You can use other dynamic languages like python (iron python), VB or ruby.
People who don’t know about silverlight…for them in short this is a runtime like adobe flash. You can program for web/client for through some great languages like C# and it will be cross platform (Windows / Linux / Mac) and viewable through different browser like IE or Firefox. Not only PC it is also targeting other device markets like Mobile or Zune. Mono guys already made MoonLight, the open source implementation of silverlight if you want to develop on linux. For designer and programmer workflow integration Microsoft providing Branches of development environment like expression studio and brand new visual studio 2008. Unfortunately it is right now only supporting all commercial editions of visual studio but Soon it will be supported by Visual Studio Express editions as well which is the free edition for Hobbyist/Student or independent developers. Though silverlight is very new but still it is showing great potential as generic platform for web and client apps. People / Companies already started to develop for silverlight as target platform. Check the showcase on silverlight website.
