Hey, looks like ILUVBLENDER is holding up fort here.

I belong to an illustration firm called Kablam based out of Bangalore. We use Blender for all our 3d work. Blender's gotten better over the years, and now with Radiosity, anisotropy, gloss, DOF, SSS all available nativerly, Blender's Internal Renderer rocks. In fact the only external renderer we use is Kerkythea, and that too sparingly. The latest version has fur and hair and some pretty nifty cloth and soft body simulations.

All works by Sanjay Unnikrishnan, Anish Mathew and George Supreeth
Almost all are commercial work.

Besides illustrating for a living I'm also a member of Pencilsauce (http://pencilsauce.wordpress.com), a Bangalore based open source graphics consultantcy. We promote Blender here and consult with VFX and animation firms on implementing open source tech into their pipeline. If you work in or run a VFX or animation facility, this plug is just for you...

Blender (http://www.blender3d.org) is a powerful all-round graphics toolkit, it even has it's own in built editor and compositor!! Even if your studio uses commercial software, you just can't beat a powerful backup option. Blender's powerful rigging system even allows you to autorig! This is perfect for pre-viz and animatics, why tie down expensive 3d software creating animatics, when you can use a high end (free!!) 3d software??

Imagine how much you can save even if you migrate just 10 3d seats to Blender. It's completely free!

If you would like more information about Blender and how you can integrate Blender into your pipeline, contact us at pencilsauce (at) gmail (dot) com

Our site is being built at http://pencilsauce.wordpress.com.

Just can't beat opensource can you?

Man thats awesome..:)
didnt knew blender has become so powefull..
I feel,it has all those big enhancements, which other 3d packages provide these days..
But pal,is the blender interface easy to grasp???
like say a guy whos been into maya and max for 3 odd years, find it easy to work on it??

I think someone whos been into 3d cg for 3 years is pretty dang experienced. 1000 days later it doesn't matter if it's maya, 3dsmax, xsi... the person is probably a punter in 3d concepts.

Blender just requires a different approach, but the essential 3d concepts are all the same.

For instance, you know the biggest problem with 3d software is the interface right? Everytime Siggraph figures out a new set of innovations, all these firms reshuffle their interface. With Blender this is never necessary because Blender uses a liquid interface concept, and when it comes to 3d apps it's better than docking and undocking panels.

Have you tried it?

No pal,i was recommened by my Pc assemblers, for my studio long ago,
but thought will give it a try later..(As most of my clients where into Maya and Max)
So trying to shift gradually,as it has now all those features with other 3d software packages offer:)
